How To Ignite Your Faith by Speaking the Word

To live a life of faith means we not only know the Word of God, but we know how to release it in our lives—and the primary way we release our faith is by the words we speak.

Mark 11:23 is one of the foundational verses where Jesus taught this: “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” (NKJV).

God wants us to speak to the mountains in our lives. He wants us to speak the change we want to see. It’s easy to begin asking God to change what we want changed, but He’s already equipped and empowered us to do it ourselves. He’s given us His Word to speak, and when we do, there’s power in what we say.

James 3:5 tells us, “Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!” (KJV).

When Brother Copeland was growing up, he was a country boy, as he calls it, and because of that, he was taught from a young age how to start a fire—and he started with “kindling.”

Kindling is small twigs or pieces of wood primarily used to start a fire because they are easily combustible. Then once the fire has started, you add bigger twigs or pieces of wood to it to keep the fire going.

Our tongues—or mouths—are like kindling, because the words we speak have the power to ignite small fires that can turn into big bonfires—both ones that are for our good and ones that aren’t. How important it is that we only speak what we want! We can speak life or death, BLESSING or cursing, hope or despair, faith or unbelief. Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) tells us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Have you not been getting what you want? Are you speaking what you want? Do you need some fresh kindling? Here’s How To Ignite Your Faith by Speaking the Word:

  1. First, to start the right kind of fire in your life, put the following verses in your heart to remind you how to ignite your faith with the words you speak. (All verses are from the New King James Version of the Bible.)

    Matthew 12:35-37
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

    Romans 10:10
“For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

    2 Corinthians 4:13
“And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, ‘I believed and therefore I spoke,’ we also believe and therefore speak.”

    Hebrews 10:23
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”

  2. Next, find verses specific to every situation and circumstance in your life where you want to see change, and start speaking those verses. This will ignite your faith because as you speak them aloud, faith will come!
  3. Then, watch the blaze and keep stoking the fire of faith by continuing to speak God’s Word. When you feel tempted to be moved by what you see or experience, speak God’s Word instead. Call things that be not as though they were, and don’t stop (Romans 4:17, KJV)!
