Olympic Champion: Still the Same Gabby

In 2004, 8-year-old Gabby Douglas began her quest for the Olympics when she enrolled at a gymnastics training facility in Virginia. Now, she’s inspiring other young people to follow their dreams.

I’m going through a difficult time. Are there some scriptures I can stand on?

Now more than ever before, we must pay attention to God’s instructions. We must take hold of the Word of God and refuse to let go—especially in difficult times. We must be like the writer of Psalm 119 who said: “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. I’ve promised it once, and I’ll promise it again: I will obey your righteous regulations.... The wicked have set their traps for me, but I will not turn from your commandments. Your laws are my treasure; they are my heart’s delight.” (verses 105-106, 110-111).

How do I survive in a hostile work environment?

Everyone faces difficult people at some time—the auto mechanic who overcharges you, the doctor who lacks a good bedside manner, even the waiter who can’t seem to get your order right and frankly, doesn’t care. But what happens when those difficult people inhabit your workplace? When your workplace becomes hostile, you need to stand in faith by standing on the Word.

How should I respond to symptoms and circumstances?

Confess what God says about those symptoms and circumstances. Some people have wrongly assumed confession is denial of physical facts and temporary circumstances. It is anything but that. It is declaring what God, who never changes, has said about the outcome and standing in faith until all temporary conditions line up with His eternal declaration.

How do I overcome a learning disorder?

First and foremost, remember that God is a good God, and He has made you an overcomer and more than a conqueror. That applies to anything and everything in your life! He has also given you the mind of Christ.

The world may have labeled you and you may notice certain things challenge you more than others, but you are called to live in victory every day in every way. The good news is that God never intended for you to do that on your own. He is right here waiting to help you!

Here are some things you can do:

Are there times when abortion is the right option?

Add to Favorites

When it comes to abortion, it is important to begin with what God has to say about the matter. We know from His Word that life begins in the womb. It is not a blob or a tissue—it is a human being; a person with a future, an anointing and a call from God with a purpose on this earth. God’s Word is clear—we are to choose life.

Should we always pray ‘If it be Thy will’?

Add to Favorites

Religious tradition teaches that we just can’t know what God is going to do from one situation to the next, so it’s a good idea to tack on “if it be Thy will” to every prayer, just in case. Many churches teach that we should pray this way because Jesus did, but He only prayed this way once: in Luke 22:42. In most instances, He prayed with boldness and certainty of receiving an answer. For example, when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, He didn’t pray, “Lord, if it be Thy will, bring Lazarus up.” No. He said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me” (John 11:41).

When I plant God's Word in my life, things seem worse instead of better. What am I doing wrong?

The answer can be found in Mark 4. There Jesus said that after God’s Word is sown in the heart, Satan immediately comes to take it away. He does this through afflictions, persecutions, cares of this world, deceitfulness of riches and the lust of other things.

Whenever you sow the Word, Satan is going to send some of those things your way in an attempt to pry you loose from the Word of God, because he knows that Word will give you victory over him.
