Question of the Day

When Kenneth and Gloria started their journey of faith they had questions too—lots of them! So, we've compiled the most frequently asked questions by people like you—people who earnestly desire to find God's answers to the practical, real-life challenges of everyday living. We have a new question every day, so check back often!

When it comes to abortion, it is important to begin with what God has to say about the matter. We know from His Word that life begins in the womb. It is not a blob or a tissue—it is a human being; a person with a future, an anointing and a call from God with a purpose on this earth. God’s Word is clear—we are to choose life.

Many, however, wonder about such situations as rape, incest or a possible threat to the life of the mother. First, it is important to note that these instances make up less than 1% of abortions annually. Second, the way in which a human life is conceived does not diminish the value of that life, nor does it take away the fact that God still formed that baby in the womb.

Consider the following scriptures about the unborn and life.

  • Deuteronomy 30:19: “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live” (NIV).
  • Proverbs 6:16-17: “There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood” (NIV).
  • Psalm 139:13: “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.”
  • Psalm 22:31: “His righteous acts will be told to those not yet born. They will hear about everything he has done.”
  • Isaiah 44:2: “This is what the LORD says—he who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you” (NIV).
  • Isaiah 46:3: “Listen to me, you descendants of Jacob, all the remnant of the people of Israel, you whom I have upheld since your birth, and have carried since you were born” (NIV).
  • Jeremiah 1:5: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart” (NIV).

God’s Word declares that many are set apart to God for ministry even while in their mother’s womb (Jeremiah 1:5 and Galatians 1:15).

Psalm 139 indicates that God knows each person before their body ever takes shape, and He has a plan for their life. As the author of life, God considers an unborn child to be an eternal being from the moment of its conception. To deliberately destroy that life before birth would be as much premeditated murder as taking the life of any other innocent person. In His great love, God Himself urges us to choose life for ourselves and our children (Deuteronomy 30:19).

There is no question where God stands on abortion. He is always for life. If you have had an abortion or encouraged one, it’s time to receive forgiveness. When you repent before the Lord, He doesn’t hold it against you. He loves you, and He wants you to go free from all guilt and shame. Your baby is waiting for you in heaven. Every time it comes to your mind, say, “I am an innocent person. My sins have been washed away, and I am looking forward to seeing my baby.”
