Are you standing in faith for a change in your nation? Are you asking God to move on the hearts of the men and women in authority? If so, this kind of prayer requires the same faith and discipline that you would need if you were asking the Lord to move on behalf of your boss, your finances or your spouse.
First, you must trust that God’s Word is true, that it is doing all that He ordains it to do. Isaiah 55:11 tells us that God’s Word “always produces fruit,” and will accomplish all He wants it to, and it will prosper everywhere He sends it.
Of course, waiting for the answer to our prayers requires patience. We don’t always see the effects of our prayers right away. Sometimes, to reap a harvest—even a spiritual one—we must sow seeds just like a farmer does. We must:
1. Sow Our Seed
We should ask the Holy Spirit to show us what seed we need to sow, understanding that our seed may or may not be financial. He may direct us to give money, or He might instruct us to volunteer in the community. He might even have us reach out in some other way. The point is to obey whatever the Holy Spirit leads us to do or give.
2. Remain Focused on the Word
Once we’ve sowed our seed, we’re to focus on God’s Word. We’re to find scriptures that pertain to the situation and begin studying, praying and thinking about those scriptures. Over time, they will affect the way we think about and pray about our nation.
3. Speak the Word
Even in our everyday speech, we can honor God and remain in faith by speaking His Word. This not only exhibits our trust in and reliance on the Word, but it also builds us up. Additionally, it allows us to stand against the enemy’s attacks.
4. Continue to Stand Strong
As we have already mentioned, patience is a great accompaniment to faith. Together, they are undefeatable. God desires for us to continue standing in faith, knowing that He is working behind the scenes in ways we may not understand. We can trust that our prayers will be answered.
Even now, you can effect change in your nation… without ever leaving home. As you pray and stand on God’s Word for His plans to be carried out, you can trust that “the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results” (James 5:16).
