3 steps to making quality decisions

Quality decisions are ones from which there is no turning back. It’s a decision you make that propels your life forward, and one from which you never retreat. It’s not a response or a knee-jerk reaction; it’s a proactive decision in agreement with God and in alignment with His Word.

God told us in Deuteronomy 30:19 (KJV), “Therefore choose…” with the implied subject you. “Therefore, you choose life.” We are the ones with the power of choice, with the power to make quality decisions.

For example, one time when Brother Copeland had lost a significant amount of weight, he kept struggling with losing the final three pounds. He knew his body was the temple of the Holy Spirit, and he wanted to honor God by taking care of his health (1 Corinthians 6:19). He would step on the scales one day and be down a couple of pounds, only to step on it the next day and be up a half pound, so he took his situation to the Lord in prayer.

As he did, he began to realize he’d been snacking quite a bit. So, he made the quality decision to not eat any more snacks. The next time someone offered Brother Copeland a snack, he politely answered, “No snack you.” It was tongue-in-cheek, but to Brother Copeland it was serious; it was his way of sticking to his quality decision. This quality decision led to reaching his goal weight.

Have you ever made a quality decision? About your health? With your finances? Or regarding a soul issue? If you have, then you know the power of such a decision to help you succeed and not waver.

What’s God been prompting you to do? What’s that one thing you’ve been wavering about? It’s time to make a quality decision.

To make a decision in a way that pleases God, consider the following 3 Steps To Making Quality Decisions.

1. Find Out the Will of God

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” –(Hosea 4:6, KJV)

A quality decision is one about which you have no regrets, because it’s made in line with the Word of God. But if you don’t know the Word of God, you won’t be able to make the best decision. Get into the Word. Find scripture that speaks to what you believe God is saying to you, so you have the Word to stand on and to ensure you’re hearing from God correctly.

2. Confer No Longer With Flesh and Blood

“Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, ‘This is the way you should go,’ whether to the right or to the left.” –(Isaiah 30:21)

Once you make quality decisions, keep it to yourself. How many times have we started a new eating plan only to tell everyone the first thing Monday at work—and failed by lunchtime? It sounds humorous, but it’s true, isn’t it?

Don’t take a poll to see how many people may or may not be in agreement with your decision to do what God’s prompting you to do—whether it’s to take better care of your health, tend to your relationships, or make changes in your finances. Instead, lean into God and listen for His voice. He promises to be right there with you, telling you the way to go, whether to the left or to the right.

3. Get the Job Done at All Cost

“For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.” –(Isaiah 50:7, KJV)

Get your thoughts, words and actions all in line with the Word of God. Keep moving forward with your face set like a flint, knowing that God will back you, cover you and walk with you as you move forward with the decision you’ve made.
