A:

“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways” (James 1:6-8).

Double-mindedness is fluctuating between God’s Word and people’s opinions. It may occur when you act on what you think the Word says, instead of searching the Scriptures for yourself and finding out what God has actually promised.

To avoid double-mindedness, stand firm in what you know to be true from God’s Word. Don’t allow room in your thinking for alternatives. Walk by faith—not according to your own understanding or the circumstances that surround you. Once you find out exactly what God has promised in His Word, apply that truth to your life. By standing firm in your agreement with God’s Word, you are allowing the Lord to work freely to administer His best in the situation (see James 3:10-13).
