The Church is precious to God, and your prayers make much power available to it. Here are some of the best ways to pray for your church.

1.    Find scriptures to stand on concerning the strength and unity of your church. It is critical that we stand on the Word when we go to the throne of grace. As you pray over your church, pray according to the Word of God. His Word never returns void.

2.    Pray that the truth will be taught and received. Second Timothy 4:2 says, “Proclaim the message; persist in it whether convenient or not; rebuke, correct, and encourage with great patience and teaching” (HCSB). Pray that leaders and teachers in the church will be bold to share the truth, not turning back for fear of man, but only seeking to please God. And pray that the congregation will have ears to hear, eyes to see and hearts to receive.

3.    Pray for unity in your church. The devil wants nothing more than to destroy churches through strife and division. Bind the spirit of strife and loose a spirit of unity over your church. Strife negates the prayer of agreement (James 3:16), so pray for unity in your church. Then your prayers will be of one accord and will release the power of the Holy Ghost.

4.    Intercede for your pastor. Pastoring is a tough job, and while many make demands of a pastor, not many hold him up in prayer. The devil is after our pastors, and we, united in prayer as the local church, can hold them up and stand for their deliverance from wicked and unreasonable men. Pray that God will fill your pastor’s mouth and that he will speak boldly with utterance in the Holy Ghost. Pray that he won’t try to please man, but God alone. Pray that he won’t back down from the truth even when he faces opposition.

What a blessing to have people like you who desire to pray for their church. Those who intercede for the local church are more valuable than they will likely ever know.
