How can I get a spiritual boost?

We need to be continually charged on the inside by the Holy Spirit in order to accomplish God’s will in the earth. Experiencing victory in the Christian life belongs to those who discover the infilling of the Holy Spirit is not just a one-time event, but a constant necessity.

Ephesians 5:17-21 says, “Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

There’s more to that phrase “be filled with the Spirit” than meets the eye. This phrase can be more accurately translated from the original Greek as “be being kept filled with the Spirit.” In other words, “keep filling yourself up with the Spirit of God.”

In Acts 4 Peter and John were arrested and warned by the Sanhedrin not to preach in Jesus’ Name. When the believers heard this, they cried out to God and said, “'And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.' After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness” (Acts 4:29-31).

Now most, if not all of those believers, had already received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. Were they asking to be re-baptized? No, but they knew that they needed the Lord’s help, and He supplied their need with a fresh infilling and empowering of the Holy Spirit!

When you feel drained or need a supernatural boost, follow the example of the believers in Acts 4 and simply cry out to God for His empowerment. We can simply say, “Lord we need Your help. Fill us fresh with Your Holy Spirit that we may speak Your Word with boldness.” If you ask God for His help, you can be assured He will liberally pour out of His Spirit and richly supply your need (Acts 2:17-21, Philippians 4:19)!
