Can the devil read my mind?

We can find no scripture that supports the idea that Satan can read our minds. To the contrary, 1 Corinthians 2:11 states that no man knows the things of man except the spirit of man which is in him.

What Satan can do is tempt you with wrong thoughts. But even then, you have the upper hand. You can resist those thoughts by speaking God’s Word out of your mouth. Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”

Don’t underestimate the damage wrong thoughts can do. To fail to resist those wrong thoughts is dangerous. Left unresponded to, wrong thoughts will eventually enter into our hearts and then come out of our mouths (Proverbs 4:20-23). Jesus said it is not what goes into the mouth of a man that defiles the man; for out of the heart come evil thoughts such as murder, adultery, sexual vice, theft, false witnessing, slander, and irreverent speech. (See Matthew 15:11, 18-19.)

The bottom line is this: It’s not the devil, but you, who controls the environment you live in. You control it by the words that come from the abundance of your heart. Matthew 12:37 says that by our words we are justified and by our words we are condemned. Keeping God’s Word in your mouth and in your heart will keep you totally free from wrong thoughts and the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19).
