Years ago, Kenneth Copeland weighed 263 pounds. He doesn’t hesitate to share his testimony about how he was delivered from food addiction and from fueling his body with wrong food choices. Once he got revelation from God and allowed His supernatural power to help him crucify the flesh, he was delivered from all food addiction, lost the weight, and never looked back. He has maintained his healthy weight for decades through a determination to stay fit for the Kingdom.

Like any other struggle, overeating has spiritual roots. A lack of self-control in this area often comes from trying to fill a void only God can fill. Take the time to get with the Lord and find out what is causing you to overeat. It could be fear, a lack of self-esteem or a past hurt. Invite God to come in and heal you—spirit, soul and body.

As you are delivered from the root cause, ask God to give you the fruit of self-control in your life. God says when we are tempted, He always gives us a way out. So when you feel tempted to eat more than you should, stop yourself, and say, “No. I resist the temptation to overeat in Jesus’ Name.”

Then begin to line your words up with what you want to see happen in your life. Say, “Lord, thank You for helping me eat just the right amount for my body. Thank You, Lord, for helping me lose two pounds (or five pounds or seven pounds).”

You can help reset your eating habits by putting other good habits into practice like the ones Dr. Don Colbert recommends HERE.

If you don’t lose weight, enter into the sacrifice of praise to God. You do this by thanking Him anyway—calling those things that be not as though they were. “Thank You, Lord, that I’m losing at least one pound a week.” You just keep saying that, and keep speaking it out, and then you act on it.

You can overcome overeating by faith. Read the Word about overcoming temptation and developing self-control, pray, speak right words and come up with an action plan to hold yourself accountable. You can do it! And God is right there with you to see you through to victory.
