Why did God make us so we could sin?

When God made us, He gave us the ability to choose. It was an act of mercy and love. God’s desire was for pure love to exist between Himself and His creation. God did not want to create robots that could only do what they were programmed to do, nor did He want to make slaves out of any creature. God gave man a will as part of His goodness, knowing the potential for love and sin is there. 

Choosing anything other than God’s way always leads to spiritual death, fear and sin. God didn’t create those things. They were the consequence of man being free to choose anything other than God. God did not create evil. What He did create was the system of sowing and reaping. 

Galatians 6:7-8 says, “Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.” The law of sowing is choosing an action. The law of reaping is experiencing the results of an action. That’s where the opportunity for evil comes in. Evil and bad results come when men choose sin.

Romans 5:12 says, “When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.” Man abused his right of choice and reaped the consequences of his sin—spiritual death—separation from God. But God, who is rich in mercy, made a way for man to be redeemed from the consequences of sin—once again by a choice. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” The good news of the gospel is that through Christ the wages of our sin can be washed by His blood, and we can receive an abundance of never-ending life! 

His blood purchased our total redemption from the consequences of sin so we could have another choice. We can choose to accept that sacrifice and make Jesus the Lord of our lives. The choice is simple, and the rewards of choosing life are great!
