Godly honor. It’s the kind of honor that keeps its word and standard of integrity no matter what. Every day, commitments of honor are required of you in your job–and it’s hard. It’s a choice between God’s honor and man’s. One brings true and sure success…and one brings shallow, temporal success that ends in ultimate failure.

So, how are you doing? Do you have trouble keeping commitments at work? Do people take you at your word? Or have they grown skeptical of your promises? If so, then you need honor–honor that comes from God only.

To Succeed Honorably in Your Job, Love God First

God is faithful to honor you when you act honorably. That’s because you are acting in something that originated in Him! He is honorable. When you operate in Him and out of love for Him, you operate in honor. You also take seriously the responsibility of representing Christ to the unbeliever (1 Peter 2:12).

Man’s definition of honor is quite different. Honor in the world comes from men and is given to men. Everything is done to gain the prestige, power and authority that other men can give. It’s temporal, short-lived and dishonorable in view of what some men will do to get it.

To Succeed Honorably in Your Job, Choose God’s Way

To be honorable requires an act of the will, an act which triggers and releases all that God has provided for us. It requires a choice between God’s WORD and the subtleties and deceptions of the world. It requires a choice between the spirit and the flesh. It boils down to a choice between standing and falling. If you are honorable, you will stand. If you are dishonorable, you are guaranteed to fall.

To Succeed Honorably in Your Job, Start With God’s WORD

“Brother Copeland,” you may say, “I see the value of honor and I want to walk in it. But where do I begin? How can I ‘find’ this honor that comes from God only?”

Start with God and His WORD. He can make you honorable. He has already honored you with His own life, with what the Bible calls eternal life. He administers this life to our spirit man through the Holy Spirit. As you get into His WORD, and allow it to get on the inside of you, honor will well up in you so full, you’ll have no desire to walk in anything else. You will speak the truth and take your words seriously. You will never distort the truth or speak idle words. You will be able to make commitments and keep them.

To Succeed Honorably in Your Job, Seek God’s Approval Only

Seek honor from God only. Jesus did not play man’s superficial games. Instead He sought God’s honor only (John 5:41-44). The world gives “honor” or medals or titles in order to boost one’s own sense of self-worth. It is saying you’ll do something to please men and make commitments for fear of what men will think. It is a dishonor to God, however, to seek the honor of others rather than that which comes only from The LORD.

I made a decision over 25 years ago to walk in the honor that comes from God. I made a choice to stand on my word, and His WORD, and to walk in integrity. I made a choice to please Him and not men–at any cost. I made a choice to stand and not fall…and I’m still standing. You can keep standing, too, and succeed honorably in your job. Think about it. Pray about it. Then choose the honor that comes from God. When God honors you, what difference does it make what anyone else thinks?

Take the Word like medicine and confess each of these promises directly from the Word.

  • Philippians 1:6: I am convinced and sure that He who began a good work in me will continue until the day of Jesus Christ, developing and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in me.
  • John 10:10: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. The Lord came that I may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
  • Isaiah 53:4-5: The Lord has taken my griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses and distresses) and carried my sorrows and pains. He was wounded for my transgression, bruised for my guilt and iniquities; the chastisement needed for my peace and well-being was upon Jesus, and by His stripes I am healed and made whole.
  • Psalm 103:2-5: I gratefully praise the Lord and do not forget all His benefits. He forgives all my iniquities and heals all my diseases. He redeems my life from the pit and corruption. He beautifies, dignifies and crowns me with lovingkindness and tender mercy.
  • Proverbs 4:20-22: I attend to God’s Word and submit to His sayings. I will keep them in my sight, and in the center of my heart. They are life to me, and healing to my whole body.
  • Psalm 91:9-10, 14-16: Because I have made the Lord my refuge, and the Most High my dwelling place, there shall no evil befall me, nor any plague or calamity come near my house. Because I have set my love on the Lord, therefore He delivers me. He sets me securely on high, because I have known His Name. I call upon the Lord, and He answers me. God is with me in trouble. He delivers and honors me. With long life He will satisfy me and show me His salvation.
  • 2 Timothy 1:7: God has not given me a spirit of timidity and fear. He has given me a spirit of power and of love and of a calm and well-balanced mind, discipline and self-control.
  • Isaiah 40:29, 31: God gives power to me when I am faint and weary. In my weakness, He increases strength in me. I wait for Him [expect, look for and hope in Him] and He renews my strength and power. I will lift up with wings of strength and rise as an eagle. I shall run and not be weary, I shall walk and not faint or become tired.
  • 2 Corinthians 10:3-5: Even though I have a physical body, I will not carry on warfare according to the flesh, using mere human weapons. The weapons of my warfare are not physical (weapons of flesh and blood), they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds. I refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the true knowledge of God; and I lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ.
  • Philippians 4:6-7: I will not fret or have anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, continue to make my requests known to God. God’s peace which transcends all understanding, shall garrison and mount guard over my heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

Relationships are important to God. In fact, in the Garden of Eden, one of the first things God did was create a relationship for Adam. He gave him Eve. But as Adam soon discovered, relationships aren’t always easy. If you have asked the Lord to help your relationships–with a spouse, friends, parents, co-workers, whomever–then you are in good hands. Here are five principles for improving the relationships in your life:

Examine Your Relationships

It’s one thing to ask God to help a relationship; it’s another to admit that the relationship isn’t a healthy one. If you need help with your marriage, visit the article Lord, Help My Marriage, but if you are dealing with other relationships that are unhealthy, then prayerfully consider whether or not you need to continue with them or at least keep healthy boundaries within them (2 Corinthians 6:14).

Trust God for Your Relationships

Decide to trust God and to trust His ways regarding your relationships. Begin studying His Word and looking for examples of good relationships within it. Look at David and Jonathan, Paul and Silas, Naomi and Ruth. These examples can show you what strong, supportive relationships look like and how these people handled adversity in faith.

Speak the Word Over Your Relationships

Begin confessing scriptures over your life and your relationships. For example, you may say, “Lord, I thank You that I have the mind of Christ and walk with wise friends. I thank You that I am a friend who loves at all time, and my friends and I sharpen each other in You” (1 Corinthians 2:16; Proverbs 13:20, 17:17, 27:17).

Get a Second Opinion on Your Relationship

If your relationship continues to challenge and frustrate you, then you may need a second opinion or someone to stand with you (Proverbs 11:14). Talk to your pastor, a trusted mentor or a friend. You can even call KCM’s Prayer Line at 1-817-852-6000 for prayer.

Develop Relationships With Spirit-Led Believers

Begin seeking out positive, healthy relationships with other Spirit-led believers. Begin attending small groups at your local church. Many churches have groups based on age or interests. Or look for volunteer outreaches within your community. You can also connect with other KCM Partners at KCM’s Believers’ Academy.

Godly relationships are important to your spiritual and mental health. As you examine your relationships, trust God with them, speak the Word over them, get wise counsel about them and even seek out new, positive relationships, God will bless your efforts. God desires you to prosper in every area of life and that includes your relationships with your family and friends!

God wants you well! When you’re standing for your healing, you want to go to the source of healing: Scripture. For decades, Kenneth and Gloria Copeland have relied on God and His Word as their Source of help and healing, strength and health. Read these scriptures, turn them into confessions, print them out, and put them into practice! And if you need a partner in prayer to agree with you for complete healing, please let us know.

  • Exodus 15:26: If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.
  • Exodus 23:25-26: And ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfill.

  • Deuteronomy 30:19-20: I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
  • Psalm 118:17: I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
  • Proverbs 4:20-24: My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. • Matthew 15:30-31: And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them: insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.
  • Matthew 18:18-19: Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
  • Mark 16:14-18: Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; and being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
  • Romans 8:2, 11: For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

  • Galatians 3:13-14, 29: Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
  • Ephesians 6:10-17: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And God’s peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them]. Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and model your way of living on it, and the God of peace (of untroubled, undisturbed well-being) will be with you.

  • 3 John 2: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Kenneth and Gloria Copeland and the staff of Kenneth Copeland Ministries are praying for you daily, for your complete health and restoration. Use these healing scriptures and confessions to stand for your health, healing and strength each and every day!

God wants us to be honorable to one another. For us to dishonor one another affects everyone involved. In Romans 12:10 it says, “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.” We shouldn’t love one another based on whether or not we are lovable. We should love each other because we are born of God.

God has honored us with His life, His Name and His Spirit. How can we do any less? God is the only One who has the right to judge. We do not. It doesn’t matter if we think the other person is right or wrong. It’s none of our business. Whose business is it? God’s.

It really makes no difference how we see one another’s conduct–whether we think it’s right or wrong. We need to deal with our own conduct, which is regulated by our relationship with God. James 3:16 says where strife is there is confusion and every evil work. Allowing strife to go unchecked or entering into it opens the door to every evil work. Harsh words and criticism are certainly not edifying and gracious. Ephesians 5:4 says, “No course, stupid, or flippant talk; these things are out of place; you should rather be thanking God.” You can’t speak harshly and thank God at the same time.

You can’t criticize those around you if you have a thankful attitude about them. When someone crosses you, instead of letting your mouth be filled with verbal abuse, fill it with praise to God. Ask the Lord to show you how to honor others and live honorably. As you develop and honor God in your life, it begins to work in your heart, in your career and in your relationships. You do your part and God does His part. When an unlovely person tries to provoke you into strife, remember: You are not provoked. Instead of retaliating, let love come out of your mouth.

When it comes to relationships, there’s no better place to start than with the most important relationship of all: your relationship with the Lord. If that’s not in order, then all your other relationships will be out of order, too (Matthew 6:33). God Himself has said in His Word that He wants to have a close relationship with us. First Corinthians 1:9 says He’s called us into fellowship with Him!

We may have thought we were fellowshiping with Him, but most of the time all we are really doing is having a string of emergency meetings–waiting until a crisis develops and then running to God for an answer. Emergency praying may give you relief. But fellowship–the intimacy of everyday closeness–is what gives you joy. Fellowship is not just relationship. You can have a relationship without fellowship, but it’s like having a marriage without love. The basic structure is there, but the heart of it is missing.

You’ll never truly know God’s will and way for you (and know Him for who He really is) until you learn to fellowship with Him. Develop a good friendship Him. Make the decision to become a “Word person.” Make God’s Word first place and the final authority in your life. No matter what the world says, no matter what practicality says, no matter what your feelings say–walk with God and make your friendship with Him the most important thing in your life.

The moment you turn to Him, He’ll be there for you. But don’t wait until hard times come to turn to Him. Fellowship with the Lord daily when things are going well so that when trouble comes, you’ll be spiritually strong enough to overcome. God says, “I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him” (Psalm 91:15). That’s important. In time of trouble, who is with you makes a big difference. When you’re connected with God, you can be sure you’ll come through just fine.

Father, it is written in Your Word that we are to esteem our marriage as precious, worthy of great price and especially dear. We agree with Your Word and act accordingly.

By a conscious act of our will, we put away strife by becoming swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger. We confess and believe that we neither offend nor take offense with one another.

Your Word says You have knit us together in purpose and in power, therefore we commit ourselves and our marriage to be the mighty instrument upon earth that You designed us to be. Our desire is to be an example of Your love to our family and friends.

So Father, right now we make a quality decision to live in harmony. We agree not to give ourselves over to selfish desires that will cause division and distrust. We declare that we honor and value our marriage by keeping our marriage bed undefiled. We declare that our marriage grows stronger every day and is an encouragement to those around us. We will conduct ourselves honorably and becomingly–being kind, tenderhearted, compassionate, understanding and loving toward one another. We are always ready to believe the best, and we freely forgive one another.

Father, we declare and therefore it is established that we live in a peaceable habitation and quiet resting place. Thank You, Father, for making us heirs together of the grace of life! We begin this commitment before Your throne in the Name of Jesus and by the authority of Your Word. Amen.

  • Romans 10:9-10, NLT: Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation.
  • James 4:8, NLT: I will draw near to God today…and He will draw near to me!
  • 1 John 4:12, NLT: I love others and God dwells in me! His love is perfected–made complete–in me.
  • 1 Corinthians 13:5, NLT: I do not insist on my own rights or my own way. I am not self-seeking. I am not touchy, fretful or resentful. I take no account of evil done to me or pay attention to any suffered wrong. I choose to live a life of forgiveness–a life of BLESSING!
  • Ephesians 4:29, NLT: I let no unwholesome talk come out of my mouth–but only that which is helpful for building others up, that it may minister grace to the hearers.

I enjoy sharing random acts of kindness. When I see people in need, I feel compassion toward them. I am not rude, proud, self-seeking or unforgiving. When people hurt me, I am quick to forgive them. I walk in unity with those who are family, friends and co-workers.

I have good relationships with others because of my love for them. I put others needs before my own. My heart is gentle, and I am patient with others as I lift them up in times of need. Because of my love for others and God’s love for me, I excel in the grace of giving.

My marriage is blessed. My spouse and I are led by the Spirit of God. When we pray together in unity, our prayers are powerful and we get results. We make every effort to establish peace and harmony in our home. Together we walk in agreement and are an unstoppable force.

If we get angry, we are quick to forgive so that we do not have strife in our relationship. We are not self-seeking, rude, proud, boastful, or jealous. Instead, we are loving, kind, patient and we put each others needs before our own. We trust each other and protect the sanctity of our marriage. • 1 John 4:9-11, 16-17: In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
  • Psalm 91:15: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
  • 1 Corinthians 6:17: The person who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him.
  • Mark 12:29-31, NIV: The most important [commandment] is this: “Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” The second is this: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no commandment greater than these.
  • 1 Corinthians 13:4-8: Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]. It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail. Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]. Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. As for prophecy (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), it will be fulfilled and pass away; as for tongues, they will be destroyed and cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away [it will lose its value and be superseded by truth].
  • 1 Corinthians 7:10-13: But to the married people I give charge–not I but the Lord–that the wife is not to separate from her husband. But if she does [separate from and divorce him], let her remain single or else be reconciled to her husband. And [I charge] the husband [also] that he should not put away or divorce his wife. To the rest I declare–I, not the Lord [for Jesus did not discuss this]–that if any brother has a wife who does not believe [in Christ] and she consents to live with him, he should not leave or divorce her. And if any woman has an unbelieving husband and he consents to live with her, she should not leave or divorce him.
  • 1 Corinthians 7:15-16: But if the unbelieving partner [actually] leaves, let him do so; in such [cases the remaining] brother or sister is not morally bound. But God has called us to peace. For, wife, how can you be sure of converting and saving your husband? Husband, how can you be sure of converting and saving your wife?
  • 1 Timothy 5:8: If anyone fails to provide for his relatives, and especially for those of his own family, he has disowned the faith [by failing to accompany it with fruits] and is worse than an unbeliever [who performs his obligation in these matters].
  • Deuteronomy 6:6-7: And these words which I am commanding you this day shall be [first] in your [own] minds and hearts; [then] You shall whet and sharpen them so as to make them penetrate, and teach and impress them diligently upon the [minds and] hearts of your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up.
  • Ecclesiastes 4:9-12: Two are better than one, because they have a good [more satisfying] reward for their labor; For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie down together, then they have warmth; but how can one be warm alone? And though a man might prevail against him who is alone, two will withstand him. A threefold cord is not quickly broken.
  • Ephesians 4:1-3: I THEREFORE, the prisoner for the Lord, appeal to and beg you to walk (lead a life) worthy of the [divine] calling to which you have been called [with behavior that is a credit to the summons to God’s service, Living as becomes you] with complete lowliness of mind (humility) and meekness (unselfishness, gentleness, mildness), with patience, bearing with one another and making allowances because you love one another. Be eager and strive earnestly to guard and keep the harmony and oneness of [and produced by] the Spirit in the binding power of peace.
  • Ephesians 5:15: Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people).
  • Ephesians 5:22-24: Wives, be subject (be submissive and adapt yourselves) to your own husbands as [a service] to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife as Christ is the Head of the church, Himself the Savior of [His] body. As the church is subject to Christ, so let wives also be subject in everything to their husbands.
  • Ephesians 5:25-33: Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her, So that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the Word, That He might present the church to Himself in glorious splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such things [that she might be holy and faultless]. Even so husbands should love their wives as [being in a sense] their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself. For no man ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and carefully protects and cherishes it, as Christ does the church, Because we are members (parts) of His body. For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. [Gen. 2:24.] This mystery is very great, but I speak concerning [the relation of] Christ and the church. However, let each man of you [without exception] love his wife as [being in a sense] his very own self; and let the wife see that she respects and reverences her husband [that she notices him, regards him, honors him, prefers him, venerates, and esteems him; and that she defers to him, praises him, and loves and admires him exceedingly]. [1 Peter 3:2.]
  • Ephesians 6:1-3: CHILDREN, OBEY your parents in the Lord [as His representatives], for this is just and right. Honor (esteem and value as precious) your father and your mother–this is the first commandment with a promise. [Exodus 20:12.] That all may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth.
  • Ephesians 6:4: Fathers, do not irritate and provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to resentment], but rear them [tenderly] in the training and discipline and the counsel and admonition of the Lord.
  • Genesis 18:19: For I have known (chosen, acknowledged) him [as My own], so that he may teach and command his children and the sons of his house after him to keep the way of the Lord and to do what is just and righteous, so that the Lord may bring Abraham what He has promised him.
  • Isaiah 54:13: And all your [spiritual] children shall be disciples [taught by the Lord and obedient to His will], and great shall be the peace and undisturbed composure of your children. [John 6:45.]
  • Isaiah 54:5: For your Maker is your Husband–the Lord of hosts is His name–and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; the God of the whole earth He is called.
  • James 1:22: But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth].
  • James 1:27: External religious worship [religion as it is expressed in outward acts] that is pure and unblemished in the sight of God the Father is this: to visit and help and care for the orphans and widows in their affliction and need, and to keep oneself unspotted and uncontaminated from the world.
  • James 1:5: If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him.
  • Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.
  • John 15:12: This is My commandment: that you love one another [just] as I have loved you.
  • Malachi 2:16: For the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I hate divorce and marital separation and him who covers his garment [his wife] with violence. Therefore keep a watch upon your spirit [that it may be controlled by My Spirit], that you deal not treacherously and faithlessly [with your marriage mate].
  • Malachi 4:6: And he shall turn and reconcile the hearts of the [estranged] fathers to the [ungodly] children, and the hearts of the [rebellious] children to [the piety of] their fathers [a reconciliation produced by repentance of the ungodly], lest I come and smite the land with a curse and a ban of utter destruction. [Luke 1:17.]
  • Mark 10:9: What therefore God has united (joined together), let not man separate or divide.
  • Matthew 6:14: For if you forgive people their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
  • Philippians 1:9-11: And this I pray: that your love may abound yet more and more and extend to its fullest development in knowledge and all keen insight [that your love may display itself in greater depth of acquaintance and more comprehensive discernment], So that you may surely learn to sense what is vital, and approve and prize what is excellent and of real value [recognizing the highest and the best, and distinguishing the moral differences], and that you may be untainted and pure and unerring and blameless [so that with hearts sincere and certain and unsullied, you may approach] the day of Christ [not stumbling nor causing others to stumble]. May you abound in and be filled with the fruits of righteousness (of right standing with God and right doing) which come through Jesus Christ (the Anointed One), to the honor and praise of God [that His glory may be both manifested and recognized].
  • Proverbs 12:4: A virtuous and worthy wife [earnest and strong in character] is a crowning joy to her husband, but she who makes him ashamed is as rottenness in his bones. [Proverbs 31:23; 1 Corinthians 11:7.]
  • Proverbs 13:22: A good man leaves an inheritance [of moral stability and goodness] to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner [finds its way eventually] into the hands of the righteous, for whom it was laid up.
  • Proverbs 13:24: He who spares his rod [of discipline] hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines diligently and punishes him early. [Proverbs 19:18; 22:15; 23:13; 29:15; 17.]
  • Proverbs 15:4: A gentle tongue [with its healing power] is a tree of life, but willful contrariness in it breaks down the spirit.
  • Proverbs 19:18: Discipline your son while there is hope, but do not [indulge your angry resentments by undue chastisements and] set yourself to his ruin.
  • Proverbs 22:6: Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it. [Ephesians 6:4; 2 Timothy 3:15.]
  • Proverbs 31:10-31: A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman–who is he who can find her? She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls. [Proverbs 12:4; 18:22; 19:14.] The heart of her husband trusts in her confidently and relies on and believes in her securely, so that he has no lack of [honest] gain or need of [dishonest] spoil. She comforts, encourages, and does him only good as long as there is life within her. She seeks out wool and flax and works with willing hands [to develop it]. She is like the merchant ships loaded with foodstuffs; she brings her household’s food from a far [country]. She rises while it is yet night and gets [spiritual] food for her household and assigns her maids their tasks. [Job 23:12.] She considers a [new] field before she buys or accepts it [expanding prudently and not courting neglect of her present duties by assuming other duties]; with her savings [of time and strength] she plants fruitful vines in her vineyard. [Song of Solomon 8:12.] She girds herself with strength [spiritual, mental, and physical fitness for her God-given task] and makes her arms strong and firm. She tastes and sees that her gain from work [with and for God] is good; her lamp goes not out, but it burns on continually through the night [of trouble, privation, or sorrow, warning away fear, doubt, and distrust]. She lays her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She opens her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her filled hands to the needy [whether in body, mind, or spirit]. She fears not the snow for her family, for all her household are doubly clothed in scarlet. [Joshua 2:18-19; Hebrews 9:19-22.] She makes for herself coverlets, cushions, and rugs of tapestry. Her clothing is of linen, pure and fine, and of purple [such as that of which the clothing of the priests and the hallowed cloths of the temple were made]. [Isaiah 61:10; 1 Timothy 2:9; Revelation 3:5; 19:8; 14.] Her husband is known in the [city’s] gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. [Proverbs 12:4.] She makes fine linen garments and leads others to buy them; she delivers to the merchants girdles [or sashes that free one up for service]. Strength and dignity are her clothing and her position is strong and secure; she rejoices over the future [the latter day or time to come, knowing that she and her family are in readiness for it]! She opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness [giving counsel and instruction]. She looks well to how things go in her household, and the bread of idleness (gossip, discontent, and self-pity) she will not eat. [1 Timothy 5:14; Titus 2:5.] Her children rise up and call her blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied); and her husband boasts of and praises her, [saying], Many daughters have done virtuously, nobly, and well [with the strength of character that is steadfast in goodness], but you excel them all. Charm and grace are deceptive, and beauty is vain [because it is not lasting], but a woman who reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord, she shall be praised! Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates [of the city]! [Philippians 4:8.]
  • Proverbs 5:18-19: Let your fountain [of human life] be blessed [with the rewards of fidelity], and rejoice in the wife of your youth. • Psalm 127:3-5: Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. [Deuteronomy 28:4.] As arrows are in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy, blessed, and fortunate is the man whose quiver is filled with them! They will not be put to shame when they speak with their adversaries [in gatherings] at the [city’s] gate.
