Do you want to live a more satisfying, happier and productive life? Your thoughts are key for achieving that goal. In fact, science now confirms what Scripture has proclaimed for years: thoughts matter. Studies now show that while negative thoughts can tear you down both physically and emotionally, positive thoughts stimulate the growth of nerve endings, improve reasoning, concentration and analytical skills.[1]

Of course, this isn’t revolutionary news for Christians. In Philippians 4:8, the Apostle Paul encouraged us to, “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” So what is most important, excellent and worthy-of-praise? The Word of God.

If you want to get rid of negative thoughts and improve your life—spirit, mind and body—then put these steps into practice:

1. Feed on God’s Word

Just as you feed your physical body with physical food, feed your mind with spiritual food. Begin reading and thinking about the Word of God. Start each morning with a daily dose. Post scriptures that catch your eye on sticky notes around your home, car and workplace. Keep it continually in front of your eyes.

2. Refuse to Dwell on Negative Thoughts

When negative thoughts come to your mind, stop and redirect yourself. Second Corinthians 10:5 refers to it as “bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” You have spent years developing your thought life. Getting rid of negative thoughts may take time and training. You will need to break that bad habit of negative thinking with the good habit of positive thinking.

3. Speak Positively

Begin talking about God’s Word and His way of seeing the world. This becomes easier once you put Step 1 and Step 2 into practice. Instead of speaking doom and gloom, speak life. Refuse to let negative circumstances affect your newfound freedom. Find other Christians with whom you can talk about the Word of God. If you don’t have those relationships in your life with friends, family and fellow believers at church, then consider attending a KCM meeting or joining KCM’s online Partner community so that you can meet like-minded believers.

Don’t let negative thoughts and negativity steal even a moment from your life. Begin to put the Word of God into your mind, refuse to dwell on negative thoughts and speak words of life. As you do, you’ll begin to experience a happier, healthier and more robust life all around!
