Question of the Day

When Kenneth and Gloria started their journey of faith they had questions too—lots of them! So, we've compiled the most frequently asked questions by people like you—people who earnestly desire to find God's answers to the practical, real-life challenges of everyday living. We have a new question every day, so check back often!

No matter how long you’ve been viewing pornography or how strong the addiction—Jesus wants to help you get completely free. In fact, that is why He came— to set the oppressed free (Luke 4:18).  He has the power to bring complete deliverance if you’ll let Him. You don’t have to trust in your own ability, because the yoke-destroying blood of Jesus covers every sin, every weakness and every trouble.

The first step to be free from viewing pornography is to go to Jesus, confess your sin and receive your cleansing from all unrighteousness according to 1 John 1:9.

You can do this by praying like this from your heart:

“Father, I sinned against You and right now I choose to turn away from pornography and leave it behind me forever. I ask Your forgiveness for my sin, and by faith I receive cleansing from pornography addiction, unrighteousness and wickedness by the blood of Jesus. I receive Your empowerment to live a holy life right now. With Your help and by Your grace, I will never look at pornography again. In Jesus’ Name. Amen!”

From that moment on, you are cleansed of that addiction, and that’s the way God sees you. Don’t see yourself any other way, either!

Refuse to think about the sin and the condemnation that comes along with it. Instead, direct your thoughts to God’s Word because that is what will separate you from the desire. Don’t think, I wish I could break this habit. Instead, replace those thoughts with the truth about your covenant with God through Jesus. Think, My sins have been blotted out. I am free from pornography—glory to God! And then, begin to declare it out of your mouth every day or any time you find your thoughts wandering back to old ways of thinking. Remember, death and life are in the power of your tongue (see Proverbs 18:21).

If your past actions have hurt others, such as a spouse, it would also be appropriate to sincerely and humbly ask forgiveness. James 5:16 says to “confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”

Being open and honest with your spouse will bring healing, and your prayers together have great power to overcome pornography with wonderful results.

No matter how tough this may seem upfront, your victory is closer than you think, and it belongs to you! God is with you in this. His Word says He will always give you a way out of every temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13). When you submit to God and resist the devil, the devil will flee from you (James 4:7). That’s a promise.

We’re standing in agreement with you for total and complete deliverance, in Jesus’ Name!
