3 Ways To Contend for God's Prophetic Word
Add to Favorites

When someone delivers a prophetic word from the Lord to the Body of Christ, most everyone is excited and praises God for it—and for good reason. Prophecies bring the Lord’s fresh perspective and Anointing to current events and situations. They give us hope, encouragement and direction—particularly when they include a promise we can’t wait to see come to pass, and especially when the promise has the power to affect our lives personally.

If you’ve received a prophetic word, or been witness to a prophetic word, and are waiting on it to come to pass, you might be surprised to learn that such words don’t come to pass automatically. In fact, the Word teaches us to be contenders for them. That’s right. Our actions, words and faith play an important role in helping bring words from the Lord to pass.

If you’re waiting for a Word of the Lord over the Kingdom, the nation or your personal life to manifest, then you need to be contending for it. To help you, here are 3 Ways To Contend for God’s Prophetic Word to see it come to pass.

1. Keep the Word Before You

“Indeed, the Sovereign LORD never does anything until he reveals his plans to his servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7, New Living Translation).

When we’re believing for something, what do we do? We go to the Word and find a scripture to stand on in faith, don’t we? We write it down, and put it in places where we can keep that Word before us. It’s how we encourage our faith and stand in faith for the promise we found.

In the same way, when we hear a prophetic word, the first thing we should do is write it down. Then, we should place it where we’ll read it daily, such as tucking it in our Bible or writing it in our journal. We can place a copy of it on our mirror or refrigerator or nightstand. The point is, let’s put it wherever we need to so that the Word is kept before us—so we can review it daily, and thank God that it’s coming to pass.

2. Stand on the Word and Declare It

“O Sovereign LORD,” I said, “I can’t speak for you! I’m too young!” The LORD replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you“ (Jeremiah 1:6-7, NLT).

When we pray for healing, whether it happens quickly or takes time, we know to take it by faith, speaking the Word only, and waiting expectantly, don’t we? We know the action steps to stand in faith and contend for what’s ours. In the same way, once we hear a prophetic word, we help it come to pass by following the same action steps. We accept it by faith, hold on to it, and refuse to let it go.

As you review the prophetic word daily, also pray over it in the Holy Spirit. As you do, the Holy Spirit will give you even further direction on how to pray that prophetic word into the present. Whether the word of the Lord is for you personally, a group of people, or an entire nation, you have the power and privilege to use your authority in Christ Jesus to command that prophetic word to come to pass.

3. Praise God for the Word Coming To Pass

“At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the LORD caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves” (2 Chronicles 20:22, NLT).

No matter what you’re contending for, praise is a mighty weapon that can break any strongholds. So, once you’ve set yourself in agreement with a prophetic word and declared that it’s coming to pass, praise God for it. As you praise Him, you’ll build yourself up in your most holy faith. Plus, you’ll become so confident, no matter what you see going on around you, you’ll be assured that the word of the Lord is coming to pass. Then, nothing will sway your faith.

As you’ve read these 3 Ways To Contend for God’s Prophetic Word, you can now stand for words of the Lord to come to pass in your life, your nation and in the kingdom of God. That’s a powerful place to be, where your actions are facilitating the words of the Lord and helping to bring His will into this earth, just like it says in Matthew 6:10: “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
