How To Preserve Freedom In Our Country

How To Preserve Freedom In Our Country

What is the connection between Abraham in the Bible and the freedom we enjoy in our country?

God said to Abraham, “Nor shall your name any longer be Abram [high, exalted father]; but your name shall be Abraham [father of a multitude], for I have made you the father of many nations. And I will make you exceedingly fruitful and I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you” (Genesis 17:5-6, AMPC).

One of the benefits of the covenant would be that nations would come from him, physically and spiritually. The United States of America is part of the covenant God made with Abraham! We are “one nation, under God.”

Enjoying freedom in our country doesn’t happen automatically. You must choose to preserve freedom for yourself, your family and our country.

Preserve Freedom for Yourself

How can you preserve freedom for yourself? In this country, you enjoy a vast number of freedoms. In general, no one tells you what to eat; what to wear; where to live; how to raise your children; where to work (or not); or where, how or whom to worship. You are encouraged to make these choices on your own.

And God allows you to make more serious choices—life and death, blessing and curses. However, He does encourage you to choose life and do so wisely (Deuteronomy 30:19).

Are the decisions you are making in life promoting life or death? Second Corinthians 3:17 says, “For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” When you make decisions based on the leading of the Spirit, you are choosing life and you are choosing freedom!

Take the time to evaluate where you work, how you spend your free time, what you listen to and read, and decide if you need to make some adjustments to preserve your freedom.

Preserve Freedom for Your Family

When you choose life, you are preserving freedom for yourself and your family. Deuteronomy 30:19 says, “Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!” It’s your responsibility to preserve freedom for your immediate family and for generations to come.

How do you do this? By your words and actions.

God has given you the responsibility to teach and train your children in His ways. Your children will imitate you, so let your words and actions mirror hope and positive expectations at home, at work and with others.

When you and your children are choosing to live in such a way that you are led by the Spirit of God and honor Him, God will honor you (1 Samuel 2:30). He ensures freedom is preserved for your family. Decide today to set an example for your children and future generations.

Preserve Freedom for Our Country

Times change, customs change, people change, but one thing remains constant: the fact that this nation was founded in faith toward God. It’s up to us to preserve the purity that belief in God provides. How do we do this?

First Timothy 2:1-2 says, “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.”

Your prayers will direct our national leaders to provide a peaceful life for all. Your prayers open the door for God to work in your city, in your state and in our country. Set aside some time each week to pray for those in authority in our country, giving God access to work in their lives to bring about His purposes and plans for our nation.

Preserving freedom in our country involves more than political activism; it begins at the individual level, where you choose to maintain freedom for yourself and your family.

As you do, you can also educate yourself about government, support leaders who demonstrate integrity, pray for our government leaders, and speak God’s will over our country. Continue the legacy that Abraham began when he chose to obey God, and preserve freedom in our country for many years to come!
