Speak to the Storm to Cast Out Fear

Speak to the Storm to Cast Out Fear

Anyone who watches the weather has heard of or even been affected by storms. Whether it’s thunder and lightning, or something much more severe like a tornado or hurricane, you can stop living in fear! You can speak to the storm and cast out fear.

God’s Word gives several accounts of the disciples facing actual storms.

In Matthew 14:22-33, Jesus insisted His disciples cross the lake without Him because He was going to the countryside to pray. As night fell and the disciples were in the boat, a storm arose, and they became terrified. They looked out over the water and saw Jesus walking on the water! They were shocked! They did not expect to see that!

Jesus then said to them, “Don’t be afraid.” He was trying to help them cast out fear.

In another account in Mark 4:35-41, Jesus was in the boat and said to the disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” As they were crossing the lake, a fierce storm came up and high winds were breaking into the boat, causing it to fill with water.

Jesus was asleep in the back of the boat. Some of the men in the boat were professional, experienced fishermen, so when they were afraid the boat would capsize, they believed it was a real possibility.

They woke Jesus saying, “Master, don’t You care that we are perishing?” The Bible tells us that Jesus got up and spoke to the storm. He said, “Peace! Be still!” and there was a great calm. For that moment, the disciples were completely living in fear. Wouldn’t you?

Jesus had been teaching the multitudes, including the disciples, how to use their faith to defeat every problem. Then, they had the opportunity to use what they had learned. However, fear kept them from speaking in faith to the storm. They forgot what they had heard. Even then, Jesus delivered them.

What storms or troubles do you face?

  • Betrayal or rejection by a friend
  • Sickness or disease
  • Loss of a job
  • Disappointments in life

The storms of life come to us all. No one is excluded from trouble (John 16:33). Jesus said, “Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.” (Luke 10:19).

Questions may come to you, such as:

  • Does God have the power to help me?
  • Does His Word have instructions I can follow to get out of the storm?
  • Can I stand up and use my God-given authority to speak to the storm and cast out fear?

The answers to all these questions should be based on God’s Word: “Yes!

Amid the storm of sickness, you can exercise your authority and declare by faith, “Jesus bore my sickness, and He was bruised for my healing, so I don’t have to endure it (Isaiah 53:5). I believe God’s Word, and I demand this sickness leave my body immediately in Jesus’ Name.” Use your authority in Christ to defeat sickness.

Other storms, such as the betrayal of a friend, the loss of a loved one, or major disappointments, can involve a myriad of situations and people. You don’t have authority over people, but you do have authority over the principalities and powers influencing you through other people (Ephesians 6:12).

Whatever storm you may be facing in life, whether you feel like Jesus is sitting in your boat or is somewhere far off, you can look at the raging waves around you and choose to speak to the storm to cast out fear!
