Need healing in your body? Try these tips on how to take Communion for your healing.

If you’re facing sickness or disease in your body today, you may already be speaking healing confessions and standing on God’s Word for healing. But if you haven’t yet achieved victory in this area, you may be wondering what else you can do, aside from standing for a manifestation. One powerful tool that is often overlooked by Christians is the taking of Communion.

The Lord’s Supper is much more than just a religious tradition–it symbolizes everything Jesus did for us at Calvary. When you partake of the cup (representing the blood), you are remembering that Jesus delivered you from sin. When you eat the bread (representing His body), you are acknowledging the physical and spiritual torment Jesus endured to deliver you from temptation, addiction, worry, care, fear, poverty, lack and every part of the curse. That includes sickness and disease (Isaiah 53:5).

God created the Lord’s Supper for a reason. When you receive it, you should plan to partake of everything Jesus’ sacrifice provided–salvation, peace of mind, healing and total prosperity. Otherwise, you’re neglecting to enjoy the gifts He sacrificed to give you.

You don’t have to wait until you go to church to receive Communion. You can receive it anytime and anywhere. In fact, if you haven’t made a practice of taking Communion on a regular basis, it’s time to start! The Communion table is the healing table, the deliverance table and the confession table.  It’s the powerhouse of God.

Every time we take Communion, it drives our roots even deeper into our faith in what the covenant of God means to us, and what the body and blood of Jesus has paid for us. We use our faith to take Communion, and we do so with determined purpose.

If you need healing in your body, here are seven tips for taking Communion for your healing:

  1. Purchase a Communion set for your own personal use. There are even individual, prefilled cup and wafer sets with a long shelf life available for easy use or transport. Alternatively, you can use crackers and grape juice.
  2. You can take Communion alone, or with a family member or friend.
  3. You can take Communion every day. Taking Communion is appropriating the blood of Jesus over your life, thanking Him for ALL He has done. It isn’t a religious ceremony, so you don’t have to wait for a minister to serve it to you.
  4. Examine yourself before you take Communion. Before we partake, the Bible tells us to examine our hearts (1 Corinthians 11:28-29). Ask God for forgiveness in areas where you’ve missed the mark (strife, unforgiveness, jealousy, envy, hatred, covetousness, fear, worry, unbelief, etc.) Also, be sure you are not receiving Communion just as a religious exercise, rather than accepting everything Jesus’ sacrifice provided. Don’t receive it halfway; that will keep you from receiving everything provided by Jesus’ sacrifice (1 Corinthians 11:30).
  5. Partake of the bread, which symbolizes the physical and spiritual torment Jesus bore to redeem us from all areas of the curse. With this in mind, say: Lord, it’s not right that I suffer from sickness or disease. I judge it now as being from Satan, and I reject it. I refuse to receive it any longer. I partake of the sacrifice of Your Son’s body, and I receive the abundant life that You have provided, in Jesus’ Name.
  6. Partake of the cup and make this confession: Father, I give You thanks for all You have provided for me through the New Covenant in Christ Jesus. I partake of those promises now! I am healed. I am redeemed. I am the head and not the tail. I am above and not beneath. I take the healing You sacrificed to give me, and I thank You and praise You for it, in Jesus’ Name.
  7. Be settled on the matter. Once you have taken Communion, settle your healing in your heart according to God’s Word. Don’t just hope it is done–know it.

No matter what you may be faced with–sin, sickness, drugs, a weight problem, worry, strife, old habits or any situation in your finances–you can be delivered through properly receiving the Lord’s Supper. The body and blood of Jesus covers every area of your existence.

Place yourself before God and receive Communion as the children of Israel did–ready to receive deliverance in your body! Take the time to put yourself before God over the Communion table. It will be time well-spent.

The Power of the Blood of Jesus

How to Plead the Blood of Jesus

Have you ever wondered what it means to plead the blood of Jesus? You can learn to take the power of the blood and apply it to any situation! Here’s how.

The attacks of the enemy can often seem relentless. He comes to attack our money, our homes, our children, our health and even our morality through temptation. But here’s something he doesn’t want you to know–he has no legal right to any part of your life.

When Jesus shed His blood on the cross, He accomplished more than Redemption and remission of sins. The blood of Jesus reversed every part of the curse. That includes sickness, disease, poverty, lack, depression, strife, addiction or any type of bondage to sin. It’s done. Finished. Over. History. Those things have no legal right to be in your life any longer.

Why?

The blood of Jesus covered it all.

Revelation 12:11 tells us that believers overcome satan by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony, or confession. So, when satan comes to attack in any area, you plead the blood of Jesus. When He tries to tempt you, you plead the blood. When he tries to bring fear or torment, you plead the blood.

The term “pleading the blood” might sound like begging, but it isn’t begging at all. “Pleading the blood” is actually a legal term. Think of it like a lawyer pleading his case before the judge. He presents evidence and facts to support his case.

Our evidence?

The blood of Jesus covers it all.

Another way to describe pleading the blood of Jesus is to apply the blood to a situation in our lives. There’s protection in the blood. There’s deliverance in the blood. When you plead the blood, you have laid down your case and put your entire confidence on an oath that is covenant-sworn by Almighty God.

To effectively plead the blood of Jesus, you need to know what you’re doing.  You can make pleading the blood of Jesus part of every day! Here are some ideas to get you started:

  1. You can plead the blood of Jesus over any person or situation. As your children walk out the door, lay your hands on their heads and say, “In the Name of Jesus, I plead the blood of Jesus over [name].” As you drive, say, “In the Name of Jesus, I plead the blood of Jesus over this vehicle and all who are in it. We will go and come back in perfect safety.”
  2. You can plead the blood of Jesus over your health. There was once a woman who was stung by a venomous scorpion. Everyone around her expected her to be in quickly become ill. But, instead, she pled the blood of Jesus against any harm coming to her, and she walked away completely untouched! That’s the power of the blood!
  3. You can plead the blood of Jesus over your home. When you apply the blood of Jesus to your home and property, you are disarming the devil and every planned attempt against you. It stops demons in their tracks and removes all wrong spirits from working against you or your family.
  4. You can plead the blood as often as you like. Billye Brim pleads the blood of Jesus over her family, ministry, home and town every day. Here is an example of what she says:

Kingdom of darkness, you listen up right now. My Father told me in Colossians that I am translated out the authority of the kingdom of darkness and into the Kingdom of Light.  Now, listen to me.  I take that authority over you.  And here’s who you don’t bother today.  I plead the blood of Jesus over my four children: Shelli, Terri, Brenda, Chip, their mates and their children.  In the Name of Jesus, I plead the blood of Jesus over the good works God has ordained I should walk in.  You stay away from my ministry and my church and my town.

When you learn how to plead the blood of Jesus, you are taking the power and authority granted to you by God Himself and putting it to work in your life, just as He intended. Nothing can stand against the power of the blood! So, start pleading the blood of Jesus in your life with confidence and boldness, and watch the devil flee!

How to Take Communion for Your Healing

Need to establish a prayer routine? Try these tips on how to set and meet prayer goals.

If there ever was a day when you must know God’s will and purpose for your life, it’s now. God is constantly changing and rearranging things in your favor–but if you’re going to keep up, you must know God’s perfect plan for your life–and how to carry it out in His power!

How do you do that?

Well, for this goal, you don’t have to diet, run three miles a day, or go back to college. You don’t have to endure training, conference calls or interviews. This goal is achieved in the quiet, still and private moments you have alone. It’s achieved through prayer.

When you invest time in prayer, you get so much in return: wisdom, understanding, peace, comfort, direction and the deliverance of promises. But for many believers, establishing a regular prayer time can be challenging.

If you need help developing a habit of daily prayer, here are five steps to help you set and meet prayer goals:

  1. Evaluate your schedule. Where do you have the most margin in your day? Perhaps your house is quiet early in the morning, and rising before everyone else is the best option. Or, maybe your lunch hour is a time when you can slip away somewhere quiet and enjoy time with the Lord. Whatever time you find, be sure it’s a time you can stick with long term.

  2. Purchase or select supporting materials. One thing that will help you build a meaningful prayer life is to spend time reading about those who have already built their own meaningful prayer life. One book mentioned by Billye Brim on a BVOV broadcast is The Secrets of Praying Heaven and Earth Together. Another powerful tool is the KCM How to Get Your Prayers Answered Lifeline Kit.

  3. Set a goal.  What time will you pray? How long will you pray? Setting a goal will help you establish a routine for your time with the Lord and make it easy to know exactly what to expect each day.

  4. Eliminate distractions.  If you know people or pets will have needs during your quiet time, plan to meet those needs ahead of time if possible. Silence your phone and leave it out of sight. If you are distracted by a messy kitchen, pray in a place that is out of view or clean the kitchen before your set appointment. Whatever the potential distractions, plan ahead to avoid them. Satan will do his best to keep you from your time–so determine to spend time in prayer no matter what.

  5. Keep in a spirit of prayer. You can train your spirit to desire prayer the way your body desires food. The more time you spend in prayer, the more you will crave it. As you go about your day, spend time praying in the spirit–driving to work, sitting at your desk or grocery shopping. As you keep in a spirit of prayer, when your set time with the Lord approaches, you will be driven by a desire to spend that time with Him, no matter what interruptions might come your way.

Watch this video from Gloria Copeland and Billye Brim as they teach more about praying like a seasoned pray-er.

When you determine to strengthen your prayer life by setting and meeting prayer goals, you will go to new levels in your spiritual life. You will hear from God on a regular, intimate basis and often find that you have answers before you even ask of Him. This is the life God desires. This is the life of peace, joy, hope and faith.

Wondering how to keep a healthy balance between secular and Christian influences? Here are simple ways to guard your heart.

In it but not of it. We hear it all the time. John 17:14-19 is clear that we are not to be of the world, but what does that really mean?

Let’s face it. You can’t turn on the television without endless commercials for pharmaceuticals for every sickness and disease imaginable, news of war, crime and violence right in your own town, or mainstream television shows promoting every kind of sin. Even around the water cooler at work, the talk seems to be of bad news and more bad news.

Many Christians believe they are immune and can handle secular influences without any negative impact on their hearts or spiritual condition, but the Bible tells us differently. In Psalm 101:3, David said, “I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them.” David knew the importance of watching what went into his eyes and who he associated with. He took it very seriously!

We, too, must understand the power of words going into our eyes and into our ears. The more we read and hear the Word of God, the more it gets down in our spirit and then comes out our mouths. The same is true of negative, secular media or bad company.

It is possible to live in this world but guard our hearts from being influenced. Though we are surrounded by so many things that are contrary to the Word of God, we can stand strong for truth and righteousness.

Below are some simple ways to guard your heart from the negative influences of the world:

  • Choose your friends wisely. Proverbs 12:26 (NKJV) says, “The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray.”

  • Surround yourself with people of hope and faith. Iron sharpens iron, and these people will encourage you to stand strong in your faith.

  • Thoughtfully select television, music, movies and all other forms of entertainment. Seek the Lord for direction, and be willing to eliminate anything that is feeding your spirit negative food.

  • Keep the Word of God in your eyes and ears as many hours as possible each day, and keep anything against His Word out! The VICTORY Channel and our podcast are great ways to keep the Word going 24/7.

We will always live in a world that promotes ideas that do not align with the Word of God, but we can take steps to guard our hearts and keep our minds stayed on Him. In the meantime, though we aren’t called to be loved by the world or participate in what it does, He has set us apart to be a light that shines brightly and dispels the darkness with truth.

4 Ways to Develop a Strong Spirit

Do You Have A Weak Spirit or a Strong Spirit?

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” -1 Corinthians 13:4-6

Christmas just may be the best time of year to be a witness of the love of Jesus to the world. Of course, any day is a good day to show the love of Jesus, but people seem to be seeking more, hurting more and needing more during Christmas. You can show the love of Jesus, as outlined in 1 Corinthians 13:4-6, by applying each principle to your Christmas activities this year.

  • Love is patient. Let’s face it. Running errands, shopping, buying gifts, decorating, planning, cooking–it is time-consuming and somewhat intense. There can be a big temptation, even for believers, to become easily frustrated, irritable and impatient. But, God has called us to love others, and part of displaying that love is being patient in parking lots and store lines, and with those who aren’t as polite as they should be. Your patience will shine the light of Jesus and stand out in a crowd.
  • Love is kind. Take the opportunity to show an extra measure of kindness to those around you this Christmas. Bless your child’s teachers with a gift or a special breakfast, reach out to those in need in your community through a food bank or by lending a hand in an elderly neighbor’s yard. A small act of kindness goes a long way and gives you the precious chance to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those around you.
  • Love does not envy. There may be some great gifts given to those around you this Christmas. Don’t give in to the temptation to envy what others have. Rejoice with them, and thank God for the gifts you’ve been given–whether material or spiritual.
  • Love does not boast. If you happen to be the recipient of a wonderful gift, be blessed and enjoy it, but be careful not to boast to others.

Learn more about the command to be clothed with humility.

  • Love is not proud or rude. Do you insist on your own way? When you are shopping or at a relative’s home, can people count on you to be a blessing, or have they come to expect criticism and negativity? Be sure your words are edifying only–not critical or harsh. Shine the love of Jesus to everyone around you, and be a light in a dark world!
  • Love is not self-seeking. Are you willing to give in to the desires of others now and then? You really wanted to have Christmas at your house this year, but relatives have other ideas. What do you do? Purpose to give preference to others this Christmas, and don’t just show up grudgingly, do so with a warm and cheerful heart.
  • Love is not easily angered. Do you get angry in traffic? Or how about when people don’t move as fast as you’d like in the store and when someone is rude to you at the checkout counter? Instead of letting anger get the best of you, try something different. Determine to remain at peace no matter what. Show love and kindness to others. You never know what they might be going through. A simple act of tenderness may be just what they need.
  • Love keeps no record of wrongs. Supernatural forgiveness. That’s the heart of Christmas, isn’t it? Jesus came to sacrifice Himself and wash all our sins away with His blood. During the season of the greatest act of forgiveness, check your heart and enter into Christmas without a drop of unforgiveness in your heart. If someone wrongs you, determine to forgive them right away.

Learn how to forgive in spite of your feelings toward someone who has wronged you here.

These Bible principles from 1 Corinthians 13 will help you show the love of Jesus to those around you this Christmas season. When you seek to love others, you are living out the true meaning of Christmas before the world. We know it isn’t about Santa, lights and gifts, but the world doesn’t. Let’s show them why we celebrate Jesus by the way we love others this Christmas season!

10 Ways to Be Filled With the Hope of Christmas

Prayer for Walking in Love

If you’ve faced overwhelming loss, repeated failures and betrayals of trust, you might find it difficult to live a life of hope. Maybe you feel like lowering your expectancy will protect you from more hurt and disappointment. The devil wants to keep you out of hope to keep you from obtaining everything that belongs to you. Don’t let him get away with it!
There are so many reasons to have hope as a believer. No matter how serious your circumstances, they can change. If you are going through hard times financially, in desperate need to move to a safer neighborhood, or needing a miracle in your marriage, it can all turn around–you can have hope.

How can you push past fear and seize the reigns of hope again? Here’s how.

Build Some Dreams

“We put our hope in the Lord….” Psalm 33:20

Many people give up on dreaming big after facing failures and disappointments. But God never intended for us to give up on anything. He wants us to dream big!

How do you counteract the fear of failure? You turn up your hope. You meditate on God’s promises until the picture they paint is so clear on the inside of you that nothing can shake it.

If you’re lying on a sickbed and the doctor has told you you’ll never walk again, instead of wallowing around in that bad report, start dreaming. You could start building a dream of climbing mountains and witnessing to people in the backwoods.

If you’re facing an impossible financial situation, go to the Word that promises that God supplies all your needs according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). Picture yourself paying off all your debts, accepting the best-paying job you’ve ever had, and giving of your abundance into the kingdom of God.

That’s what hope is all about. It’s a divine dream. It’s an inner image that’s bigger than you are because it’s built on the promises of God.

Get Some Courage

“Be strong and courageous!…” Deuteronomy 31:6

It takes courage to put aside everything that’s happened to you in the past and press forward with supernatural expectancy, but that’s what hope does. It keeps you intensely focused on God’s promise. It keeps you seeing that promise on the inside, even when you can’t see it on the outside. It keeps you operating by the spirit of faith.

How do you get that kind of courage? Put your faith in action. You build that faith by keeping all negative information and people out, and the Word of God in. Keep it going in your eyes, in your ears and out of your mouth.

When you have hope, the devil can’t beat you down. He can’t tear you down. He can’t stop your faith from working. When he knocks you down, you just get up with a deeper resolve to hit him harder next time. You expect God to move with such vigor that all the distractions in the world can’t turn your head. All the failures of the past drift into nothingness. You can’t even remember them anymore because you’re so focused on the expectation of what God is about to do.

When you put these steps into practice and lay hold of God’s promises, you will watch your dreams come true. You will live the kind of life that those who give up hope will never know.

A Prayer to Renew Your Hope

Our families can be full of people who rub us the wrong way–especially during the holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Maybe they use family gatherings as an excuse to hurl insults, use inappropriate language or intrude in personal matters. Whatever the hurtful habits, they can often cause an uncomfortable atmosphere during a special holiday.

Christ has called us to walk in love toward others. In fact, He calls it the second greatest commandment (Mark 12:31).  Yet, perhaps, you find when you set out to love others and show patience, you end up faking a smile and cringing inside.

How can we possibly respond the way God wants us to while so many negative emotions are boiling beneath the surface?

Scripture is a treasure trove of practical advice about how we can deal with difficult family members using wisdom and love. If you’re facing a challenging family get-together this Thanksgiving or Christmas, try these four tried-and-true tips from God’s Word.

1. Don’t Take the Bait

But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too” (Mark 11:25, NLT)

Unforgiveness is a favorite tool of the devil to get you out of alignment with God’s Word. It is also one of the greatest hindrances to healing and blessing. That’s why immediately after giving instructions about faith, Jesus emphasized the importance of forgiveness (Mark 11:25). Notice the words when you are praying. Don’t wait. As soon as someone offends you, forgive immediately, and your prayers will never be hindered.

2. Keep Silent

“He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of a calm spirit” (Proverbs 17:27, NKJV).

This can be a tough one. So often, when someone is out of line, you can think of the perfect thing to say back. It can be tempting to put someone in their place. Yet, God says the perfect thing to say is often nothing at all. Keep yourself from speaking out of anger or hurt. Let your words be cautious and kind. Silence is golden, so think before you speak.

3. Pray in the Spirit

“The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness…. [and] prays for us…. ” (Romans 8:26, NLT)

At a loss for what to say or do in the face of a difficult person? It’s no problem for the Holy Spirit! He’s ready and willing to help you any time you need Him. Praying in tongues is the only way we can pray beyond what we know. When we pray in tongues, we activate the Holy Spirit within us, and He begins to teach us and enlighten us on how to respond to people in a godly way.

4. Ask for Wisdom

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5, NKJV)

All of us need the wisdom of God on a daily basis, and He has told us He will give us all we need. Before and during your holiday gathering this year, pray for discernment about what you should say, if anything. Sometimes silence is best, and other times a loving confrontation will create more peace. Ask God to show you His will. Then, trust Him to guide you.

You can have a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas–even when you have to deal with difficult family members! Don’t let the devil rob you of these special times. Practice these tried-and-true tips from the Bible, and let God’s love shine through you this holiday season!

4 Tips for Keeping Your Cool When Family Visits

5 Scriptures to Stand on when Family Visits

A Prayer for Stressful Family Visits/Situations

If you’ve been waiting for a manifestation of God’s promises in your life, Mark 4:18-19 may have your answer. In these verses, Jesus tells us about three blessing blockers, or “thorns,” that will steal your harvest: Cares and anxieties, the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts for other things. Learn how to remove these thorns from the soil of your heart, so you can receive your blessing!

1. Cares and Anxieties

With concerns about health, finances, marriage and children, this can be a daily struggle. But, the bottom line is, you can’t be worried or be in fear, and walk in faith at the same time. If you want to cultivate a heart that produces a hundredfold harvest, you must seek to drive worry, fear and anxiety out of your life by learning to trust God and by putting your faith in His Word concerning every issue that you face.

It isn’t always easy at first, and it does take diligence to find out what God says about your situation and to continue to stand in faith and not fear–no matter what your eyes may see.

How to remove this thorn: Whenever an anxious thought pops into your mind, rebuke it, take it captive, and say, “No, I refuse to worry about that. Jesus, I roll this care over on You because I know You care for me.”

The good news is…if you keep fighting the battle against worry by keeping the Word in your heart and in your mouth, it will become so real on the inside of you, you won’t have to fight it anymore. You will naturally begin to exercise faith and not fear.

2. The Deceitfulness of Riches

We know that prospering is a good thing–it is God’s will for us to be blessed financially. What is outside of His will, however, is when money or material possessions become the most important priority in your life. If money or making money becomes more important to you than spending time in the Word, attending church or spending time with your family, it has become a heart issue–a thorn that is stealing your blessing from you.

If you face this thorn in your life, it doesn’t have to stay–no matter how deep it runs or how long it’s been there. The power of the living God is the power to deliver and restore. He makes all things new (Revelation 21:5), including you.

How to remove this thorn: Begin by making a commitment to change the priorities in your life. This may require a big change in your schedule, but the Lord will be with you as you take these steps toward freedom. Ask Him to meet your natural with His super, and guard your heart against the enemy, who will certainly be there to try to talk you out if it. Remember, he is already a defeated foe, so pay him no attention. God is on your side!

3. The Lusts for Other Things

The third and final thorn is another all-too-common reason born-again people don’t produce fruit or receive an abundant harvest of blessings. It is “the lusts of other things.”

So, what are the lusts of other things? Well, the Hebrew translation of the word lust is “longing desire for other things,” no matter how innocent they may seem. This can also be described as foolishness or folly. Proverbs 15:14 says, “a fool feeds on folly,” (NIV). No one wants to be called a fool, but the Word makes it plain–if we spend a lot of time feeding on folly, we’re being foolish. One of the primary reasons most Christians aren’t seeing the kingdom of God manifest in their lives in greater power is because they are spending time feeding on folly and not the Word of God.

What is folly? It can also be defined as “silliness.” So, where are believers finding folly? Well…every television set, movie theater, radio and magazine stand…just to name a few. With hundreds of cable channels and the internet, it’s not difficult to find an unlimited supply of foolishness to feed on.

How to remove this thorn: When you spend more time consuming worldly entertainment than the Word of God, your heart will become cluttered and take on thorns that crowd out THE BLESSING. Limit or remove this thorn–and you’ll see breakthroughs in areas you’ve been praying about for years.

In Matthew 6:33, Jesus said, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” This means we must put God and His kingdom FIRST. He must be our highest desire and priority.

Once you have removed these thorns, you heart will be uncluttered by the cares of this world, the love of money and the lust for other things. People with these kinds of hearts are the ones who see God’s kingdom at work in their lives–the good-soil believers who bear fruit–30-, 60- and a hundredfold.

Scripture Confessions for Guarding Your Heart

Right now in our world, there has been upswing in unbridled anger, outspoken racism and utter strife. As the Body of Christ, we have the responsibility to stand in faith against those strategies of the enemy. Instead of contributing to the division, we should be examples of godly love. Below are four ways to stand against division in love:

1. Renew Our Minds to the Love of God

One way to do this is to follow Kenneth Copeland’s example and regularly speak 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 over ourselves:

“I am patient and kind. I am not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. I do not demand my own way. I am not irritable, and I keep no record of being wronged. I do not rejoice about injustice but rejoice whenever the truth wins out. I never give up, never lose faith, am always hopeful and endure through every circumstance!”

2. Respond in Love With Our Words

We must recognize that responding in love is not the same as agreeing with an ungodly position. Instead, it is responding with a gentle answer (Proverbs 15:1). Instead of lashing out at an opposing position, we should stop, listen and ask questions that probe the speaker to think critically about his or her position. Then once we’ve shown that we value him or her as an individual (and as a person who is precious to God), we can share our positions respectfully. This kind of approach is much more likely to keep the lines of communication open.

3. Respond in Love With Our Actions

James 2:17-18 says, “So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. Now someone may argue, ‘Some people have faith; others have good deeds.’ But I say, ‘How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.'”

We can produce good deeds by standing against racism and economic inequality:

  • Volunteering with community organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, a local food bank, a clothes distribution center or others
  • Starting a church outreach to help single parents buy back-to-school supplies, clothes and/or Christmas gifts, provide car repair services for senior citizens, or help underprivileged kids after school with their homework
  • Holding a neighborhood canned food drive
  • Writing letters to our local newspapers in support of equality or against unfair practices in our communities
  • Serving food to or providing job skills training for the homeless in our cities.

4. Respond in Love by Praying

There is no substitute for prayer. When we hear a disturbing news report, we need to pray. When our family members espouse an ungodly position, we need to pray. If our employers adopt a position with which we disagree, we need to pray. We need to pray for wisdom, for revelation knowledge to come to them and, above all, for their salvation through Jesus Christ.

We have a responsibility to be people who are led by the Spirit and walk in love. We must take time to ask the Holy Spirit to show us ways we can be beacons of God’s love to the world–to our families, friends, co-workers, church members, neighbors and communities. Then instead of being “a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal” (1 Corinthians 13:1), we can be examples of God’s love to the world and effect the change He desires.

Forgiveness is a beautiful thing. It can bring peace to troubled souls and offer hope for those needing a change. Sadly, the hardest person to forgive may be yourself. Perhaps you’ve heard that God forgives you, but in your own heart and mind, you struggle to accept it. You may battle against the shame and disquiet that plagues your memories–replaying things you should have done, things you shouldn’t have done, times you should have known better. How do you move forward? Here are three lessons you can learn and contemplate about God’s forgiveness for you:

1. You Are Freely Forgiven

God’s forgiveness is not based on your performance. It’s not something you earn. Your salvation, the greatest example of forgiveness there is, was freely given (Romans 6:23). And your continued forgiveness is also freely given. The only requirement is heartfelt repentance.

2. You Are Forgiven When You Confess

First John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” Forgiveness happens when you confess your sins. If you have confessed to the Lord the things you have done wrong, then you are forgiven. Any wrong decisions you made in the past have been wiped clean in Christ. That’s not to say there may not be earthly consequences, but in God’s eyes, you are clean.

3. You Are Forgiven, Not Condemned

If you continue to struggle with feelings of condemnation, then ask the Lord to help you accept the forgiveness He has already given you. “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). Understand who wrote those words. The Apostle Paul, who wrote that under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, would have suffered with his share of condemnation. Before coming to the Lord, he had persecuted God’s people, and even caused the death of one of the apostles. He had blood on his hands from his past, but he had accepted God’s forgiveness completely and dedicated his life to sharing the gospel. In other words, he was still used mightily by God, and you can be used mightily, too.

If you struggle with feelings of regret, inadequacy or depression over past mistakes, then take time to meditate on God’s forgiveness. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to comfort, guide and help you overcome those thoughts and feelings. Also commit to combatting them with the Word of God by saying out loud, “I have confessed my sins, therefore my heavenly Father promised to forgive me according to 1 John 1:9.” Remind yourself of that and repeat it often until it becomes heartfelt revelation to you.

If you need someone to stand in faith with you, contact a pastor at your local church or call the KCM Prayer Line at +1-817-852-6000. Commit to stand in faith until you know beyond any doubt that your forgiveness is complete!

Having a hard day? Everyone experiences one occasionally. When those days hit, you have a choice: You can succumb or you can overcome. Consider these three areas when horrible days happen:

1. Your Words

Succumb:  When you give into difficulties by complaining with friends, whining to family or venting on social media, you allow the problems to grow bigger and stronger. You aren’t contemplating the solution to your problems, you’re simply rehearsing the issues. You’re also weakening your faith by saying–either outright or insinuating–that you can’t trust God with the situations.

Overcome:  When you take your concerns to the Lord in prayer or even ask Spirit-led prayer partners or ministers to agree in prayer with you, you’re being proactive. And when you speak the Word over the situations, you are speaking the solutions and proclaiming that God is faithful and can be trusted with whatever you’re facing.

Scriptures to Meditate: Philippians 4:6-7; Ephesians 4:29; Proverbs 18:21

2. Your Thoughts

Succumb:  When you let your mind run wild with obsessive thoughts or replay bad situations repeatedly, then you are, again, tearing down yourself and your faith. When you fantasize about taking revenge or telling someone off, you’re hurting yourself, not them, because you’re putting your energy toward negative solutions that can’t help solve anything.

Overcome: Take your concerns and experiences to the Lord in prayer. It can also be helpful to journal about the situations while reminding yourself of what the Bible says and allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you through your journaling time. Music can also be a great tool to help you refocus your mind on the Lord. You can choose something upbeat and spend time dancing before the Lord like David, or you can choose something quiet, contemplative and worshipful.

Scriptures to Meditate: Psalm 19:14; Romans 8:5-6; Philippians 4:8

3. Your Actions

Succumb:  If you let your flesh take control, then difficult days will only get worse. You’ll risk lashing out in anger or withdrawing, which allows the enemy to wage war against your mind. You may even give into vices like excessive shopping, overeating, overindulging in alcohol or engaging in illicit sex. All of these actions only serve to defeat you and drag you into a heinous cycle of regret and condemnation.

Overcome:  When difficult days happen, overcome by, first, turning to the Word and prayer. Get yourself in a right frame of mind by setting your thoughts on the Lord. If you need to burn off pent-up energy, then take a walk, go for a run, hit the gym, work on a hobby, dance it out with praise music or meet a Christian friend for coffee. Choose enjoyable activities that help you refocus your attention on the Lord, that are productive, and that won’t lead to regret.

Scriptures to Meditate: Romans 12:1-2; 2 Timothy 1:7; Colossians 3:17

When tough days come–and they will come–choose to overcome them God’s way–with the wisdom of the Word, the direction of the Holy Spirit, and the comradery of Christian brothers and sisters. It’s the best way to overcome, not succumb, to hard times!

Did you know that it’s God’s will for you to increase in every area of life?

We know that we are redeemed from the curse of the law, and that we are called to be a blessing. The word blessed in Hebrew means “empowered to prosper and increase.”

Do you know the full extent of that promise? The Bible says that God sends forth His Word to accomplish His will, and it will not return to Him void (Isaiah 55:11). God expects us to continually access His Blessing–His Spirit of Increase in everything that we do.

Psalm 115:14, KJV, says “The Lord shall increase you more and more, you and your children.” It’s God’s will that you and your descendants increase in every area of life.

Are you experiencing Kingdom increase and fullness in every area of life? If not, here are three things that will help you get on the path to increase.

1. Understand That Increase is God’s Will

The Lord created mankind to expand. Genesis 1:28, KJV, says, “God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” God’s original intent for mankind was to increase and have dominion. His will has not changed.

Third John 2 says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (KJV). God wants you prosperous! God wants you healthy! God wants you wise! It is His express will that you live in a perpetual state of increase–taking dominion and living a life of success.

The word blessing means “increase and abundance,” whereas the closest definition of curse is “decrease and loss” according to the Jewish commentator Ibn Ezra. Think about that.

Jesus said, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10, KJV).

God’s will is for you to live a more abundant life–exceedingly abundantly above all you can ask or think, according to Ephesians 3:20, (KJV)! And Galatians 3:13-14, KJV, says that Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law–that curse of decrease and loss–so that THE BLESSING of Abraham–increase and abundance–could come upon us.

That’s great news!

2. Believe the Word of God

That sounds so simple and obvious, but are you doing it?

Mark 4:24-25, KJV, says, “And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.”

It may seem unfair to take away from those that have not and give to those who have, but listen to what the Lord is saying here. Our level of increase is directly related to the amount of faith we have in the Word of God. Jesus is basically saying that we decide how much increase we will experience. If you hear the Word and believe it–mixing it with faith–you will increase. If you hear the Word and mix it with doubt and unbelief, you will decrease.

God wants us to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33), guard our hearts (Proverbs 4:23), meditate on His Word (Joshua 1:8), and believe what we hear (Hebrews 11:6). When you meditate on God’s Word, giving heed to what you hear and mixing it with faith, it will result in increase. An increase of faith. An increase of blessing. An increase of wisdom.

However, you can’t look at the Word once, and walk away expecting a miracle. James 1:23-24 talks about the man who walks away after hearing the Word and forgets it. You must diligently seek the Lord and study His Word to experience great increase in your life.

Remember the parable of the sower in Matthew 13? Those that bring forth fruit–30, 60 and one hundredfold–are those who hear the Word and receive it. Something more happens to these people than just hearing the Word–they mix it with faith, and it brings forth fruit!

Change your thinking from worldly unbelief and begin thinking faith thoughts. Believe that it truly is God’s will to prosper and increase you. Do not be conformed to this world (Romans 12:2)-that negative and hopeless way that the world thinks. But be transformed-changed into the image of Christ-by the renewing of your mind.

That means that you should stop looking at what the world says about you and start believing what the Word says about you. That’s the way you prove what God’s will is! You get to prove that God’s Word is right! You don’t have to take somebody else’s word for it-you can prove what the Word says!

3. Speak Increase

God calls those things that are not as though they already exist, according to Romans 4:17–and you should too. You have been created in His image to do the same things that He does. When your finances look bleak, speak to them. When your body looks sick, speak to it. When your faith is weak and you feel afraid, speak! Speak to your mountain!

“For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he says” (Mark 11:23, KJV; also see Matthew 21:21, 17:20; Luke 17:6).

If you believe that the things you say will come to pass, they will! You shall have whatsoever you say! That’s an amazing promise. Speak to your body. Speak to your finances. Speak to your children’s lives. They were created to expand and carry on a legacy. Every single part of your life was meant to expand and increase. You were created in the image of God and the Word says that His kingdom is ever expanding.

So no longer be subject to your circumstances. Rise up and understand that you were created for increase!

Do you find yourself struggling to combat negative reports? Is fear trying to get a foothold in your life each time you hear what’s happening around the world? If so, here are five scriptures that you can use to combat that fear and stir up your faith. Let these be the beginning of a deeper study into what the Word says about God’s protection:

1.”The Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!” -Psalm 91:2, AMPC

2.”The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. He is my refuge, my savior, the one who saves me from violence.” -2 Samuel 22:2-3

3.”The Lord says, ‘I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.'” -Psalm 91:14-16

4.”For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.” -Psalm 34:7

5.”Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” -Isaiah 41:10

Let the Holy Spirit minister peace to you through these scriptures. Remind yourself that you serve a powerful God who loves you. As you meditate on them (and others!), obey God’s Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit, then trust that He will be faithful to protect you and your family.

How is your stress-ometer? Feeling cool, calm and collected? Or are you hitting the red zone that signals that you are overloaded? If that’s you, then one of the best strategies you can employ to defeat stress is meditating on the Word of God.

How do you do meditate on the Word successfully? It’s easy. Simply find a scripture that pertains to your situation. If one doesn’t come to mind, ask the Holy Spirit to help you. He may bring one to mind, or He may draw your attention to one as you read the Word during your daily Bible reading and study time. Once you have one, spend time reading it in context and in the original text. Think about the verse and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal its meaning to you. This isn’t a quick process. It may take days and even weeks for the Lord to minister the scripture’s meaning and revelation to you. You may also want to write the verse down and/or post it where you can see it–your computer, tablet or smartphone home screens; your bathroom mirror; your car dashboard; your refrigerator door; or your desk/locker at work. Over time, the Holy Spirit will begin to minister to you about that Word.

If you still struggle to find a verse with which to battle stress, here are five to get you started:

  1. “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” -Philippians 4:8
  2. “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:19
  3. “Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” -Proverbs 3:6
  4. “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” -Jeremiah 29:11
  5. “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” -Isaiah 41:10

Receive the help you need to defeat stress as you let God’s Word calm you, encourage you and equip you for all He calls you to do!

What does it mean to be a mature Christian? Does it happen simply because you’ve been a believer for a certain length of time? No, maturity just doesn’t happen; rather, it is a choice. It takes a quality decision to pursue the things of God and “grow up” in them. If you would like to become more mature in your faith, here are four steps to put into practice.

Step 1: Mature by Focusing on the Word

There is no way to mature as a believer without the Word of God. “Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness” (1 Peter 2:2-3). It is only by the Word, or as you “crave pure spiritual milk,” that you can grow, or enjoy “a full experience of salvation.” This means not only reading and studying the Word but also speaking and hearing it, too (Ephesians 4:15).

Step 2: Mature With Love

As you spend time reading and studying the Bible and begin to act on what you learn, you begin to approach situations in your life with more wisdom. This is essential as you begin to pursue a deeper spiritual walk The fruit of the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control) become more prevalent than worldly responses like jealously, strife and anger (1 Corinthians 3:1-3).

Step 3: Mature as a Body

We live in an individualistic world, but the Body of Christ doesn’t work that way. It is necessary that you belong to a body of believers, or a church. Yes, you can grow as an individual, but true maturity comes when you interact with other believers and are part of building one another up (Romans 15:1-7).

Step 4: Decide to Mature

The Apostle Paul spoke of his own spiritual growth when he said, “When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things” (1 Corinthians 13:11). Like we’ve already discussed, maturity is a decision. If you have decided that you want to pursue the things of God, grow your faith, and walk in a way that is worthy of Jesus’ sacrifice, not for your own selfish gain, but for Him, then you will mature. Yes, you will make mistakes and stumble, but God is not looking for perfection, He is looking for a willingness to love and serve Him.

Just read this beautiful promise: “For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right” (Psalm 84:11). If you desire to follow Him with your whole heart and live in a way that honors Him, then He won’t withhold it from you. You will increasingly become the mature Christian you desire to be, and the Lord will be able to use you for His glory more and more!

If you are one of the 1.5 billion people suffering from chronic pain, I’ve got good news for you: Jesus took your pain to the cross! Often in my Healing School services, I hear from people suffering from lower back pain, bulging disks, fibromyalgia and more. Pain has become their constant companion. Well, I’m here to tell you that God provided healing through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

If you find yourself in this situation, follow the example of the woman in Mark 5. She knew what it was like to have trouble getting healed.

“[She’d] had an issue of blood twelve years, and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse” (Mark 5:25-26, KJV). In other words, she was sick. She was broke. And she’d been that way for a long time.

If anyone ever had reason to say, “I can’t figure out how to get God to heal me,” this woman did. But she didn’t take that attitude. Instead, she took a series of steps that connected her with God’s power, and she ended up hearing Jesus say, “Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole” (verse 34, KJV).

Faith, like God, is no respecter of persons. It works the same way all the time for everyone. That’s why Brother Kenneth E. Hagin used to say, “If anybody will do the things that woman did, they can receive healing from anything.”

I know that’s true, not only from the Bible but from personal experience. So let’s take a look at exactly what this lady did.

Heal Chronic Pain by Hearing It!

According to Mark 5:27, KJV, what first set her story in motion was this: She “heard of Jesus.” Since faith comes by hearing the Word of God, it’s no surprise that’s how her healing miracle started. She heard the Word. If we’re going to have faith to receive healing, that’s where we’ll have to start, too.

Heal  Chronic Pain by Saying It!

What did she do next? She spoke words of faith. “She kept saying, If I only touch His garments, I shall be restored to health” (verse 28, AMPC).

That’s how faith always talks. It says what God says. So if we’re going to receive healing like this woman did, that’s what we’ll do too. We’ll speak the Word!

Heal Your Chronic Pain by Acting on It!

Once the woman with the issue of blood heard the Word and said it, she went into action!  She did what she knew to do. She pushed her way through the crowd that was pressing in around Jesus and touched His clothes (Mark 5:27). In other words, she put feet to her faith. She behaved as if what she believed and said were true.

Heal Chronic Pain by Taking It and Telling It!

When the woman in Mark 5 acted on her faith and touched Jesus’ clothes, it was more than just a physical action. It was spiritual too. She actually reached out with the hand of faith and took (or received) from Him the healing she needed. That’s what made her touch different from everyone else’s.

It’s one thing to reach out to the Lord hoping to get healed. It’s something else to take, by faith, the healing He has already provided.

Thank God for this four-step plan that’s worked for thousands of years to heal everything from chronic pain to deafness to high blood pressure. If you’ll put it to work in your life, you too, will soon be giving the testimony that Jesus still heals today!

I’ve been telling people to spend time in the Bible, or the Word, for decades now. Almost everywhere I preach, no matter what topic I’m talking about, it seems I always get back to the importance of putting the Word first place in your life. You may have heard me say it a hundred times. But you know, hearing it isn’t enough. It’s doing it that will put you over.

Jesus taught us that principle in Matthew 7. There He told about two men. Both of them had heard the Word, yet Jesus said one of the men was foolish and the other wise. What made the difference between the two? The wise man acted on what he heard and the foolish man didn’t.

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it (verses 24-27, KJV).

You may know full well that you need to spend time in the Word. But unless you act on that knowledge, it won’t do you any good when the storms of life come.

“OK,” you say. “I’m determined to spend time in the Word of God every day. But how much time is enough?”

Spend as much time as it takes to get the Word inside you in abundance. I can tell you right now, that doesn’t mean just pulling a scripture out of the “Promise Box” once a day. To have abundance means to have more of something than you can see any way to use.

When you have the Word of God in abundance, you have more of it inside you than anything else! You’re so full of the Word that when trouble comes, the Word is the first thing out of your mouth.

To lay hold of that kind of abundance, you need to do what Joshua 1:8 said. You need to “meditate on the Word.” To meditate means to “fix your mind.” So fix your mind on the Word of God every day. Apply it to yourself, personally. Allow the Holy Spirit to make it a reality in your heart.

Thoughtfully ponder how the Word of God you’ve read applies to your life. Ask yourself, “What does this Word from God say to me? What does it mean in my life? How can it change my situation?” Then place yourself in agreement with what God says about you in that Word. Make up your mind that you are who God says you are. You can do what God says you can do. And you can have what He says you can have. Put yourself in agreement with Him, then receive it.

So take action! Begin now to set aside time for the Word each day. Begin now making it the No. 1 priority on your schedule and experience the difference it makes in your life. Happy studying!

There’s nothing quite like watching your child suffer, especially at the hands of a parent who’s not around. The missed baseball games. The empty seat at the school play. The months or years of silence. Those lost moments can cause lifelong heartache unless there is forgiveness.

Here are six scriptures to help you guide your child toward forgiveness, an understanding of God’s love, and the peace that Jesus provides.

  1. Mark 11:25: “But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.”
  2. Matthew 18:21-22: “Then Peter came to him and asked, ‘Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?’ ‘No, not seven times,’ Jesus replied, ‘but seventy times seven!'”
  3. Colossians 3:13: “Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”
  4. John 13:34: “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.”
  5. Psalm 68:4-5: “Sing praises to God and to his name! Sing loud praises to him who rides the clouds. His name is the Lord–rejoice in his presence! Father to the fatherless, defender of widows–this is God, whose dwelling is holy.”
  6. Luke 6:27: “But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.”

Stand with your child as he or she learns to walk in forgiveness. Confess and pray these scriptures over the parent who is absent. And be sure to read the article, “Helping My Child Forgive,” for more help.

“Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” -Proverbs 16:3

It’s the New Year, the perfect time to pause and get God’s perspective on the coming year. One way to do that is by taking a New Year prayer retreat. It’s the perfect time to get away, seek the Lord, soak in the Word, and listen to what the Holy Spirit has to say. Here are some steps to get you started.

1. Plan the Length of Your Prayer Retreat

Decide how long your retreat will be. It can be a day, a weekend or longer, depending on what your schedule will allow. If this is your first prayer retreat, be realistic about the amount of time you will be comfortable and focused. Although it’s easy to imagine a weeklong retreat, if you’ve never done it before, it may be a too ambitious for your first time out. Instead, start small to ensure you have a rewarding time with the Lord. It is also quite possible that you will be unable to get away for a long stretch because of family and job commitments. If a one-day prayer retreat is all you can commit to this year, then make the most of it.

2. Plan the Location

The goal of your prayer retreat is to slow down, remove distractions and commune with the Lord. If you can do that at home, then by all means, do it. However, if distractions make a home-based prayer retreat unrealistic, other options that work for your budget and location exist. Here are a few options:

  • Local hotels
  • Bed and breakfasts
  • Cabins at a state park or campground
  • Campgrounds
  • Retreat centers.

3. Plan Your Time

Your prayer retreat can consist of different expressions of prayer and spiritual refreshment. Different times of your day may include walking through nature as you allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you, or you may simply sit in solitude while enjoying the Lord’s creation or listening to praise and worship music. Other activities may include:

  • Reading a teaching book
  • Listening to an audio teaching by a trusted minister
  • Playing music
  • Participating in a creative outlet while you meditate on God’s Word (drawing, painting, knitting, crocheting, etc.).
  • Journaling.

Once you consider what you want to include in your prayer retreat, then it’s just a matter of scheduling your day. Here’s an idea of what one day could look like:

7-8 a.m.                 Wake up and get ready for the day

8-9:30 a.m.            Breakfast and Bible study

9:30-11 a.m.          Prayer

11 a.m.-noon         Read teaching book

Noon-1 p.m.          Lunch

1-2 p.m.                 Nature walk

2-4 p.m.                 Prayer

4-6 p.m.                 Read teaching book

6- 7 p.m.                Dinner

7-9 p.m.                 Prayer

9-11 p.m.               Read Bible/Journal

11 p.m.                  Bedtime

Remember, this is only a sample day. Your prayer retreat may make more time for deeper Bible study, nature walks while you pray or praise and worship. The goal is not to re-create this–or any other schedule–but to make your retreat a personal expression of worship. It is a good idea to go in with an idea of how you want to schedule your time and possibly even bring a timer (or timer app on your smartphone) so that you can easily move from one activity to the next. Of course, your schedule can adjust as the Holy Spirit moves.

4. Plan What You Will Pray

There may be specific things that you want to bring before the Lord–goals for the upcoming year, direction for your family, ministry or job, or intercessory needs. It may be helpful to make a list of the things you want to talk to the Lord about so that you don’t forget.

5. Plan What You Will Bring

In addition to necessities like clothes, equipment (if camping) and food (if picnicking/cooking), be sure to bring the tools you need to have a successful retreat. Here’s a list to get you started:

  • Bible
  • Journal
  • Pens/markers
  • Instrument/praise and worship music
  • Teaching books for study
  • Bible study materials (concordance, Bible study notes, commentary)
  • Backpack (if planning a walking prayer time)
  • Water bottle

If you have never before taken a prayer retreat, this may be the year you begin a new life-giving tradition. Allow the Holy Spirit to show you how to plan your new adventure so that you can enjoy a special time of spiritual renewal and hearing from the Lord.

You are faced with a big decision, and you have to make a choice. How can you be sure that you’re making the right one? Choosing God’s way doesn’t have to be difficult or mysterious. In fact, James 1:5 says all you have to do is ask: “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” Here are four steps you can take to ensure that you’re choosing to follow the path of wisdom.

1. Check the Word

By far the greatest resource we have with regard to God and His desires for us is His Word. When you have an important decision to make, check the Word first to see what it says about the situation. Some things are clearly outlined in the Bible, like caring for the poor and needy, and avoiding immorality. If your decision is going to directly contradict one of these principles, chances are, you already know it’s the wrong decision.

Other things are less clear. In these situations, read the Word, and pray for God to guide you to passages that will shed light on your decision. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, we are assured that “all Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”

2. Pray in the Spirit

Praying in the spirit, or tongues, allows you to speak directly to God. “For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious” -1 Corinthians 14:2.

When you pray in tongues, you are praying God’s will, directly to Him. It allows your mind to get out of the way so your spirit can commune with the Father.

3. Check with Trusted Believers

God places people in your life to help you. Proverbs 19:20 tells us to “get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.” In Hebrews 13:17, we’re told, “Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.”

So, set a meeting with your pastor, or meet for coffee with your prayer partner. Outline the decision you’re facing and possible choices. Go over the pros and cons together, and hear their advice with an open heart and mind.

4. Check Your Peace

Does the peace of God fill your heart when you think about your decision? Or are you filled with anxiety? Colossians 3:15 urges us to “let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts.” When you’ve made the right decision, even if it’s overwhelming, you will feel that deep peace that only the Holy Spirit gives.

Making big decisions, and even small ones, can be a daunting task. Thankfully, God equips you with the tools you need to have a victorious life. You just need to know where to look. By checking these four areas–the Word, praying in the spirit, the advice of trusted believers, and the inner peace that only the Holy Spirit can give–you’re better prepared to make the right choice about the important matters in your life.

The holidays are here! It’s a wonderful time of celebrating the birth of our Savior with friends and family, many of whom we only see once or twice a year. And as much as we enjoy this special time, family members are really good at getting on our nerves. Here are five tips to help you keep your peace as you’re with family this season.

1. Pray

First Thessalonians 5:17 tells you to “pray without ceasing” (KJV). This includes praying for wisdom during family events. Ask God to help you see your family members as He sees them. They are complex people with their own thoughts and opinions, which may be different from yours, and that’s OK. But with God’s help, you can keep a heavenly perspective during your gatherings.

2. Avoid Politics

This is wise, age-old advice–heed it! Political discourse is important when your goal is to effect change. Call your senator, write your congressperson, become active in local politics, but don’t think that debating political ideology with grandma is going to do anything but create a stressful atmosphere.

3. Take a Walk

When it becomes too much, throw on your coat and scarf and take a walk. God’s creation is naturally soothing. Listen to the wind and the birds and take a moment to clear your mind. Studies show that exercise is a natural antidepressant, and even a 10-minute walk can improve clarity of mind and brain function, putting you in a better place to deal with your family members.

4. Be Present

When you’re participating in a conversation with a loved one, really listen. Make eye contact. Be present in that moment instead of planning your response or thinking about tomorrow. People can tell when you’re actively listening, and it makes them feel loved and valued, which contributes to a peaceful atmosphere.

5. Turn the Tables

Sometimes friends and family talk incessantly about stressful topics. Don’t seethe and allow stress to build, simply turn the tables. Instead of listening to them go on and on about this person, or that thing, ask them about themselves. “How have you been feeling?” “What new projects have you been working on?” “What is the funniest thing that happened to you as a child?” People love telling you about themselves, and learning new things about friends and family can be fun.

The holidays are supposed to be a time filled with family, friends and fun. All too often we allow ourselves to become bogged down with stress and worry about things that are, in the end, inconsequential. Remember that your loved ones are a great blessing from God. Keep your peace and enjoy their company. It may be the best part of your holidays!

Let’s face it: Christmas, the season in which we celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace, can be anything but peaceful. Visits from extended family disrupt your children’s schedules, rich foods take a toll on your body, and the increasing materialism of Christmas all work together to challenge your ability to focus on what really matters. So how can you keep your cool when the world around you seems to be bubbling with anxiety? Here are valuable tips to help you make it through this Christmas season with your peace intact.

Breathe and Pray
When you’re overwhelmed by your to-do list, stop. Take a slow, deep breath in, then slowly blow it out. Pause, then do it again. Repeat this process several times throughout your day. Ask God to fill you with His peace with every breath you take in, and let go of stress and worry with every breath out. Understand that God’s peace is available to you at all times; you simply have to access it. Philippians 4:7 says, “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Speak this scripture over yourself and over your household daily to remind yourself of the true peace that is available to you.

Limit Activities
How many Christmas party invitations have you received already? Most of us receive enough invitations each year to keep us busy every weekend in December, and then some. The best thing you can do to keep your peace is say, “No.” It can be difficult, but by choosing only a few gatherings that are the most important to you, you’ll be able to promote a sense of peace and community that will ensure you feel uplifted, rather than drained.

Create Family Traditions
You probably remember certain traditions that your family observed when you were growing up. You may even still practice some of these with your own family. If not, this is a great year to start. Create special traditions that revolve around spending quality time with those you love during Christmas. For instance, choose one day per week that is a special “family only” time. Then take the opportunity to unplug and spend time with one another. No television, no toy commercials, just time to talk about your day. Here are a few ideas for family-only activities:

  • Play a board game
  • Bake Christmas cookies
  • Decorate Christmas cookies
  • Play a game of football, soccer or Frisbee®
  • Create homemade decorations (Pinterest will give you lots of great ideas for this.)
  • String popcorn for your tree
  • Sing Christmas songs
  • Roast marshmallows in your fireplace
  • Listen to (or sing) Christmas music as you enjoy mugs of homemade cocoa.

Give to Others and Be Blessed
Jesus said in Acts 20:35, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Giving provides the perfect opportunity for you to share the blessings of the season with others in simple ways. And by blessing others, you and your family are in turn blessed. How do you do this while still keeping your peace? Here are a few ideas:

  • Volunteer in a homeless shelter or food bank
  • Donate toys to your local domestic violence shelter
  • Adopt an angel from a church that has an Angel Tree
  • Give a gift card to a single-parent family in your church and then pray for that family throughout the season
  • Give jackets, coats and blankets to a homeless shelter
  • Pray nightly for the families who send you Christmas cards.

There are so many simple but powerful ways that you and your family can bless those around you.

Whether you put a few or all of these tips into practice, remember that Jesus is Lord, and He is the reason you celebrate. As you keep your focus on Him, you’re sure to have a happy and peaceful holiday season. Merry Christmas!

Are you waking up disappointed by the recent election results? Did the other candidate–the one you didn’t vote for–win? Well, I have good news for you: The future of this nation is not in the hands of the politicians. No matter what political candidates you like or don’t like, or what party you support, you should be encouraged.

There isn’t a politician anywhere who is wise enough to guide this country safely through the challenges and threats it is facing these days. Only God can do it. And it is prayer–not politics–that brings His power and wisdom on the scene.

As long as Christians are praying for this nation, as long as there are believers here who seek the Lord, the future of the United States of America will remain safely in the hands of God. He Himself will direct, guide and heal this land. He has given us His Word on it.

In 2 Chronicles 7:14, He said: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

The Lord reminded me of that promise in a fresh way July 4, 2003, during our West Coast Believers’ Convention. While I was preaching, the word of the Lord came to me saying:

Have no fear! Take no alarm for the future of this nation. No politician can destroy it. This nation, under God, was established in answer to the prayers and cries of My people, says the Lord. It’s not based on politics. It’s not based on world affairs. This nation, its foundation and its continuation, is based on the prayers and the worship of My people.

Only when there are no more of My people praying in My Name, crying out unto Me, only then will this nation come to a place where her existence is in danger. And My people, called by My Name, all over this nation have repented, are repenting and are turning from their wicked ways. I have heard…I am hearing…and I will continue to hear from heaven; and you rest assured, I am in charge!

So the next time the candidate you didn’t vote for wins or the next time you see a politician on television saying something foolish (or even something seemingly wise), remind yourself that this nation is not subject to politicians and pundits. It’s not sustained by its great statesmanship. This nation is sustained by the power of God. Its very existence is an answer to the prayers of His people. And if we as His people will continue to obey Him and pray as He directs us to, He will heal and uphold our land!

Let us, as the Body of Christ, join together and thank God for every good and perfect gift He has placed in our lives (James 1:17). There truly are so many!

Are you standing in faith for a change in your nation? Are you asking God to move on the hearts of the men and women in authority? If so, this kind of prayer requires the same faith and discipline that you would need if you were asking the Lord to move on behalf of your boss, your finances or your spouse.

First, you must trust that God’s Word is true, that it is doing all that He ordains it to do. Isaiah 55:11 tells us that God’s Word “always produces fruit,” and will accomplish all He wants it to, and it will prosper everywhere He sends it.

Of course, waiting for the answer to our prayers requires patience. We don’t always see the effects of our prayers right away. Sometimes, to reap a harvest–even a spiritual one–we must sow seeds just like a farmer does. We must:

1. Sow Our Seed

We should ask the Holy Spirit to show us what seed we need to sow, understanding that our seed may or may not be financial. He may direct us to give money, or He might instruct us to volunteer in the community. He might even have us reach out in some other way. The point is to obey whatever the Holy Spirit leads us to do or give.

2. Remain Focused on the Word

Once we’ve sowed our seed, we’re to focus on God’s Word. We’re to find scriptures that pertain to the situation and begin studying, praying and thinking about those scriptures. Over time, they will affect the way we think about and pray about our nation.

3. Speak the Word

Even in our everyday speech, we can honor God and remain in faith by speaking His Word. This not only exhibits our trust in and reliance on the Word, but it also builds us up. Additionally, it allows us to stand against the enemy’s attacks.

4. Continue to Stand Strong

As we have already mentioned, patience is a great accompaniment to faith. Together, they are undefeatable. God desires for us to continue standing in faith, knowing that He is working behind the scenes in ways we may not understand. We can trust that our prayers will be answered.

Even now, you can effect change in your nation… without ever leaving home. As you pray and stand on God’s Word for His plans to be carried out, you can trust that “the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results” (James 5:16).

God’s Word is clear that, as believers, we are called to pray for those in authority. First Timothy 2:1-2 urges us to “pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.” More than ever, our elected officials need our prayers. These men and women are making monumental decisions that affect the future of our nation.

…But what if I disagree with the person’s political party?

The Word doesn’t tell us to pray only for those we agree with. First Timothy 2:1-2 makes it clear that we’re to pray for all people, including (and especially for) those in authority.

…But what if the person stands for ungodly things?

What better time to pray than when the person is in error? The Hebrew people lived in this very predicament under the leadership of King Nebuchadnezzar. This man–this heathen–answered to no one. There were no checks and balances governing him. And yet, God reached him. In the middle of the night, God showed up, shook him to the core and redirected his life (Daniel 2). Once confronted with the greatness of God, the king fell on his face and declared: “Truly, your God is the greatest of gods, the Lord over kings” (verse 47). If God could reach King Nebuchadnezzar, He can certainly reach our elected officials.

…But what if the person makes bad decisions?

This is exactly why our government leaders need our prayers. Proverbs 21:1 tells us, “The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; He guides it wherever He pleases.” We can pray in faith for our leaders to make wise, godly decisions that benefit our entire country and even the world.

…So what should I pray?

Together, we can unite to stand in faith for our leaders. We can pray that they would:

  • Know God
  • Accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior
  • Hear the voice of the Holy Spirit
  • Obey the voice of the Holy Spirit
  • Desire to know, read, study and apply the Word of God
  • Spend time in prayer
  • Learn the principles of faith
  • Possess wisdom
  • Live with integrity
  • Lead with strength
  • Speak plainly
  • Exhibit the fruit of the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control)
  • Have discernment
  • And receive wise counsel.

God has not given up on our country or on any individual person…and neither should we. Nothing is beyond the control of our amazing and loving God. As we welcome newly elected officials into office, let us commit to pray diligently for them–that they will make known the One true God and His Son, Jesus Christ (John 17:3).

Do you feel like your faith could use a boost? Do you desire to be so strong in your faith that nothing the enemy sends your way distracts you from the promises of God? While there is no substitute for reading and studying God’s Word (Romans 10:17), there are ways to remind you of what the Word says and encourage you in applying that Word. So if you want ideas for stirring up your faith every day, here are five simple suggestions for doing just that:

5. Keep a Prayer Journal

Maintaining a prayer journal is an excellent way to remind yourself of all the Lord has done for you in the past. Any notebook will do. Simply record your prayers as well as how and when they were answered. Over time, you will see just how faithful the Lord is!

Are you ready to walk in your dreams? Are you ready to see the deep desires of your heart come to pass–financial blessings, a godly spouse, a healthy family, career success, fulfilled ministry calling? If so, here are five scriptures and confessions to get you started as you begin standing on God’s Word for your dreams.

  1. “Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.” -Ephesians 4:1
Confession: I am a servant of God, and I have been called by God to [insert dream]. I lead a life worthy of that calling!
  2. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”  -Romans 10:17 (KJV)
Confession: I have faith to live out my dreams because I continually hear the Word of God and what it says is possible for my life. I do not believe anything else!

  3. “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'” -Jeremiah 29:11
Confession: The Lord has good plans for my life! They are not plans for disaster, but they give me a future and a hope!

  4. “For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.” -Romans 11:29
Confession: Thank You, God, that You have gifted me and called me to [insert purpose/dreams]. I already have everything I need to accomplish it. I praise You because You never take away the purpose of my life nor the gifts to fulfill it.

  5. “Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.” -1 Corinthians 1:26-28
Confession: Thank You, God, that You have chosen me, and You can use me in this world to do good and fulfill Your purposes. I will show the world Your glory and how good You are to Your children as I live out my dreams and fulfill my purpose.

God bless you as you begin standing in faith for your dreams. And when they come to pass, please be sure to let us know. We want to celebrate with you!

When you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, you receive a gift from God–the gift of speaking (or praying) in tongues. It is a powerful gift that every believer should desire. In fact, here are five benefits to praying in tongues:

1. Praying in Tongues Allows You to Speak Directly to God

“For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious.” -1 Corinthians 14:2

When you pray in tongues, you are praying God’s will, directly to Him. It allows your mind to get out of the way so your spirit can commune with the Father.

2. Praying in Tongues Keeps You in Tune With the Holy Spirit

“And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.” -Acts 2:4

Tongues is a gift from God. It allows you to pray the will of God by the empowering of the Holy Spirit. When you pray in tongues, you are yielding to the Holy Spirit who dwells in you. Then you are allowing that same Spirit to pray through you, so you are in tune with Him.

3. Praying in Tongues Strengthens Your Spirit

“A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.” -1 Corinthians 14:4

Praying in tongues builds you up spiritually and helps you to live a Spirit-led life.

4. Praying in Tongues Allows You to Pray Even When You Don’t Know What to Pray

“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” -Romans 8:26

Even when you don’t know how or what to pray, you can still pray…in tongues. You can trust your spirit to pray the perfect will of God, regardless of the situation.

5. Praying in Tongues Is a Weapon Against the Work of the Enemy

“And then he told them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved…. These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages…. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.'” -Mark 16:15-18

Jesus proclaimed several things that would happen to those who followed Him and continued His work. Speaking in tongues is one of those gifts, and it allows Jesus’ followers to stand against the work of the enemy.

Praying in tongues is a gift that’s available to every believer. It allows you to pray God’s will to Him. It keeps you in tune with the Holy Spirit and strengthens your spirit as you stand against the work of the devil. Don’t discount this powerful gift from God. Desire it. Embrace it and relish the strength it adds to your spiritual life.

Kenneth Copeland Ministries believes and teaches that it is important for Christians to be debt free and walk in complete financial freedom. Financial freedom will manifest itself in your life many ways–relief from worry and tension about overdue bills, a clear conscience before God and before others, and most importantly, through the assurance that God is in control of our finances.

Kenneth Copeland Ministries is committed to helping you get started on your journey to complete financial freedom. Here are a few things you will need to do as you prepare to begin budgeting your money.

  1. Pray, ask God for His wisdom and for the Holy Spirit to lead and direct you. We have provided confessions and scriptures to help you get started.
  2. Know what a budget is and what it should do for you. A budget is a plan for the coordination of resources and expenditures the amount of money that is available for, required for, or assigned to a particular purpose. A budget will help you see where your money comes from and where it is going, help you set and achieve your financial goals, and give you a written plan to assist you in making financial decisions.
  3. Make a list of all your spending every day for 30 days. This practice will make you aware of your spending habits and help you make better spending decisions.
  4. Gather your income information, monthly fixed and variable expenses.
  5. Take this information and enter it into the provided budget spreadsheet. This will help you on your way to financial freedom–“Your Complete Financial Breakthrough.”

There are many other Bible based resources available by Kenneth and Gloria Copeland that will teach you what God’s Word says about finances, debt, increase and prosperity.

Kenneth Copeland Ministries believes and teaches that becoming debt free is something every Christian can–and should–accomplish. The Bible tells us in Romans 13:8 to “keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another…” (The Amplified Bible, Classic Edition). In fact, as believers, we should be the lender, not the borrower (Deuteronomy 28:12).

Compromise is everywhere. From elections to boardrooms, from marriage vows to financial schemes, worldly compromise is truly all around us. That’s why it’s so important for God’s people to take a stand against unholy compromise in to their lives. Whether it’s cheating on taxes, electing officials that don’t honor God or cheating on a spouse, compromise is never a good thing and always ends up bringing some kind of death (moral, marital or financial).

To discover what it is to live a holy life of integrity, you can look at Daniel. He is one of the best biblical examples of a person who refused to compromise. He experienced great hardship and persecution, and yet, he stood strong as a man of God. If you haven’t read the history of Daniel, be sure to do so. And as you do, remember these two lessons that you can apply to your life.

1. Live your life boldly regardless of what ungodliness surrounds you.

“Daniel soon proved himself more capable than all the other administrators and high officers. Because of Daniel’s great ability, the king made plans to place him over the entire empire.” -Daniel 6:3

Don’t fall for the logic that you must play the world’s games to get ahead in your work, your community or your church. Stand strong in your faith and and trust God to reward you just as He did Daniel.

2. Focus on God and become even stronger in your faith.

“But when Daniel learned that the law [forbidding him to pray to God] had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God…” Daniel 6:10

When Daniel was forbidden to pray to God, he disobeyed the law and, instead, chose to honor God. It might seem like Daniel made a hard decision, but after a lifetime of remaining faithful to God, he didn’t waver. He knew the right decision and so will you. When you refuse to compromise and you stand steadfastly on the Word, you actually become stronger–so the next time a questionable decision needs to be made, you can make it. As long as you continue to study and meditate on God’s Word, recognizing temptations and saying no to them become easier.

Daniel honored God and because he did, regardless of what was happening around him, the Lord blessed him. You can learn from his example and apply it to your life too. When you do, you’ll be a person of integrity that the Lord can trust with small and big things.

by Gloria Copeland

It’s simple!

Sometimes I think that’s why God chose me to teach about the truth of God’s Word and how to apply it–because I’m simple. When I read the Word of God, I just believe it is speaking to me personally. I don’t worry and fuss and say, “Well, I wish that would work for me, but I don’t think it will because of this or that….” I just expect God to do what He says.

You can do the same thing. You can come to the Word like a little child and say, “Lord, I receive this. I believe Your Word above all and I trust You with my life.” If you will, you’ll never be disappointed.

How can you get that kind of simple, childlike faith? By hearing the Word of God.

Romans 10:17 says, “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” But you need to know something else: Doubt comes by hearing also. That’s why Jesus said, “Be careful what you are hearing…” (Mark 4:24, The Amplified Bible).

What you’re hearing can be a matter of life and death when you’re dealing with healing. If you’re going to a church, for example, that teaches healing has passed away or that God uses sickness to teach you something–and you keep hearing that Sunday after Sunday–what do you think will grow in your heart? Doubt, not faith.

What you plant inside your heart grows–always. Doubt will grow and keep you bound. Truth will grow and make you free. So be careful what you’re hearing. Listen to the Word of God. As Proverbs 4:21 says, “Let [my words] not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.”

Read the Word every day. Make notecards for yourself using scriptures and tape them to your mirror.

Play CDs. Listen to them in your car. Listen to them while you dress in the morning. If you’ll listen to the Word while you’re driving back and forth to work every day, you’ll be surprised how fruitful that time will become. It will change your life. I challenge you to try it!

God’s Words have power in them. When you keep them in the midst of your heart, they become life and healing and health. They’re medicine. God’s medicine.

But beware. People will try to discourage you and keep you from taking that medicine. Don’t let them throw you off track. Instead, just remember this: You don’t live an overcoming life because you’re a fine Christian. No one does. You live an overcoming life because you take the Word of God, and you keep it in front of your eyes. You keep it going into your ears. You keep it in the midst of your heart and you apply it to your life.

You live an overcoming life because you believe God for it, because you talk about it and because you act on it–day after day after day. It’s that simple.

Are you living the life you want to live? Are your spirit, mind and body in perfect sync? Do you greet each morning with joy? If not, you may not be living the healthy, happy life God desires you to live. If you want to live with joy, freedom and well-being in every area of your life, then put these six keys to work. Live the life you were meant to live…the one Jesus died to give you!

Key #1 to Living a Healthy, Happy Life: Believe and Receive

Living a healthy, happy life begins when you get born again by receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Your life takes another leap forward when you receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Key #2 to Living a Healthy, Happy Life: Cling to the Lord’s Promise

In Psalm 91:16 God promises, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.” If you are a Christian, then this promise belongs to you, don’t let go of it. Write it down and post it where you can see it every day, several times a day. Hold tightly to this promise and trust God to fulfill it.

Key #3 to Living a Healthy, Happy Life: Get Busy for God

Commit to completing whatever God has given you to do here on earth so that when you get to heaven Jesus can say to you, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” If God has called you to prayer, then get to praying. If God has called you to give extravagantly, then get to giving. If God has called you to focus on your family so that the next generation is prepared to serve Him, then do that. If God has called you to plant a church, start planting. Whatever God has called you to do, get busy doing it.

Key #4 to Living a Healthy, Happy Life: Keep God’s Word

Proverbs 3:1-2 clearly explains the importance of this key. It says: “My son, forget not my law or teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; for length of days and years of life [worth living] and tranquility [inward and outward and continuing through old age till death], these shall they add to you” (The Amplified Bible). If you want to live a life of peace and tranquility even when the whole world around you is falling apart, then you must follow God’s Word.

Key #5 to Living a Healthy, Happy Life: Receive Forgiveness

First John 1:9 says, “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” If you have made mistakes–and everyone has!–then ask God for forgiveness and receive that which is available to you by the blood of Jesus. Then change your ways. Doing so allows you to take what belongs to you in Christ…which is healing, health and well-being.

Key #6 to Living a Healthy, Happy Life: Forgive

Matthew 6:15 says, “But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” This scripture makes it clear that you need to forgive those who have sinned against you. It’s the only way that you can get free from the pain and anger that can keep you bound to your past.

You can live the healthy, happy life you were born to live. God ordained it. Jesus paid for it. And by remembering these six keys, you can have it!

How do you approach your Bible reading time? Do you approach it with purpose and delight, knowing the Lord is going to meet you there? Or do you treat it like a duty? I want to adjust your thinking so that you can get the most out of your Bible study.

Sadly, some people don’t even know the Bible is God speaking to them–that God speaks–even today–through His Word. Hopefully, that’s not you. Hopefully you know God’s Word, know that it’s true and that you can depend on it because that’s the whole purpose God has in giving us His Word. We are dependent on it … on Him. Our part is to apply faith to the Word.

The Word is where we get our help and strength. It is the foundation on which our faith acts. Faith applied to the Word changes our situation–it changes our lives.

The reason we read the Word is to let it talk to us. The Holy Spirit in our spirit will translate the words on the page, or what we hear preached, and put it into our hearts. He will make God’s Word understandable, and show us how it applies to our lives.

When we sit down with God’s Word, we should always do so convinced that it is going to change our lives. We should think, God has something to say to me and I’m listening. I’m expecting to have my faith built up. I’m ready to hear what He has to say to me and I’m ready to receive it!

When we approach the Word with that attitude we can expect things to happen. Whether we are after something specific or we are simply fellowshipping with God, the Word will reveal things to us. It will show us more clearly who we are in Christ, and who He is in us. It will direct our thoughts and actions, bring us to our knees in worship, and bring to our remembrance people who need our intercession.

We should never approach the Word with a “ho-hum” attitude, thinking, Well, I’ve done my duty today. No, our attitude should be something like, Wow, I’m looking forward to how the Word will guide my day.

Our expectations for revelation from the Word should be so high that we’re never surprised at what God speaks to us, but we’re amazed–ready and willing to allow the Word to work in our lives. We should always expect our faith to increase and take everything the Word has to give us! That’s how we read the Bible with purpose!

by Kenneth Copeland

“Brother Copeland, I just don’t have the kind of faith that changes things.”

That’s a comment many people have made to me over the years. It’s their excuse for not standing for their needs to be met or their children to be healed or their spouses to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus.

But Jesus combatted that excuse. He said you can have faith if you want it. He said, “Have the faith of God” (Mark 11:22). Don’t wallow in doubt and worry. Instead, obey Him. Say, “Yes, Lord. I believe. I take the faith of God and I have it now. I thank You for it!”

“But I don’t feel like I have it,” someone might say.

Jesus didn’t ask you how you feel about it.

He said, “Have faith in God.” That’s His Word to you, and the Bible says, “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). So agree with The Word. Declare, “Faith cometh now by this scripture in me. I have faith in God.”

If someone overhears and says, “What did you say?” answer with, “I said I have faith in God!”

When the devil comes to you and says, “Nah, you don’t have any faith, you’re just faking it,” answer him. Say, “Get your lying self out of here, Satan! I have faith in God. You understand that? Jesus told me to have faith and I do!”

Don’t say it nicely and don’t tiptoe around. Put him in his place–under your feet.

Do what Smith Wigglesworth said to do. He was on a bus one day and saw a woman walking along the sidewalk with a little dog following her. She turned around a couple of times and said real sweet, “Now go on home, doggie. Go on back to the house.” The dog ignored her and stayed right on her heels until she stomped her foot at him and yelled, “Git!”

As the dog turned tail and ran for home, Mr. Wigglesworth hollered at her from the bus window, “That’s the way you have to treat the devil!”

It’s the truth. The devil will cuddle up to you, he’ll follow you, he’ll con you and dog your steps until you take The Word of the living God and put him on the run. So do it!

Stop leaving your Bible unopened on the coffee table while you whine around about how the devil won’t leave you alone. Instead, open up that Bible and put it to work in your life. Recognize it as God’s bond, His blood-sworn oath to you. Read it with the awesome realization that God swore in the blood of His firstborn Son that He would fulfill every word of it. Receive every promise in it–not as “an old sinner saved by grace” but as the blood-bought seed of Abraham and the joint heir of the Blessing that you are in Christ.

Spend time in The Book! Get it in your heart in such abundance that every time you open your mouth, God’s Word comes out. If you’ll do that, every bad-mouthed, Blessing-blocking circumstance in your life will wither. Just like Jesus, you’ll operate in the faith of God and you will have whatsoever you say.

In all our wars there have been soldiers who have looked to God for help. Many have learned the value of praying the 91st Psalm. In fact, one of my father’s close friends was an American fighter pilot who got shot down during World War II. He was captured and incarcerated for almost 22 months in a prison camp.

One day he looked outside and the sky was covered with B-24s and B-17s. The prisoners were shouting with joy to realize they would be rescued, but then it dawned on them that they might get killed in the crossfire. Our friend dove under a bed along with two other fellows–one Jewish, the other Catholic. During the time he was a POW, he diligently confessed Psalm 91, and that’s what started coming out of his mouth: “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust…. A thousand shall fall at my side, and ten thousand at my right hand, but it will not come nigh me!” The Jewish boy jumped right in, then the Catholic boy said, “God, I don’t know it all by heart, but amen, amen, amen!”

The prison camp was leveled. The hospital was leveled. There was nothing left but about $4 worth of rubble–and one little bed and three fellows under it who were trusting God.

That is what Psalm 91 will do in combat!

Gloria and I have been honored to minister to military personnel in person and through teachings about the divine protection that’s available to them as described in Psalm 91. We are thrilled when we receive letters from soldiers who have taken hold of this truth in their own lives.

Years ago, when I spoke to the troops I told them, “I’m giving you an assignment. You had to learn the orders of the day, now learn God’s order of the day–Psalm 91!”

Here it is:

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

If you are standing in faith for the protection of your soldier, then begin praying the 91st Psalm over him or her today. Don’t wait another minute to take a stand in the spirit for their safe return. And if you need someone to agree in faith with you, be sure to call one of KCM’s prayer ministers at 1-817-852-6000. We’re here for you!

The Christian life is not hard. In fact, it’s easy.

I realize that might come as a shock to some people, but it’s true nevertheless. When we live it the way God intended, the Christian life is wonderfully simple. It is, as Jesus said in Matthew 11:30, easy and light.

We don’t have to exhaust ourselves figuring out solutions to the problems we’re facing. We don’t have to struggle to make ends meet. We don’t have to wonder and worry about the future.

All we have to do is follow our Good Shepherd. All we have to do is go where He leads, say what He tells us to say, and do what He shows us to do, and He takes care of the rest. He makes us lie down in green pastures so we don’t want for anything. He leads us beside still waters so we’re constantly rested and refreshed. He keeps us on the right road so we’re never lost, confused or afraid.

Does that sound to you like a hard life?

It certainly doesn’t to me. What it sounds like is the kind of life described by the 23rd Psalm. A life so wonderful that every day our cup runneth over with the goodness and mercy of The LORD!

“Well, Brother Copeland,” someone might say, “we have to have some wisdom about these things. We have to remember that Psalm 23 is talking about the life we’ll have after we leave this earth. It’s talking about what we’ll have someday in heaven.”

No, it’s not. If it were it wouldn’t say things like, “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid,” and “You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies” (verses 4-5).

Heaven doesn’t have any shadowy valleys. Our enemies aren’t up there hanging around God’s tables. The shadows and enemies are here on earth.

That’s the reason we need Jesus here with us. This world is a perilous place! We don’t have what it takes to navigate it alone. We need Him to lead us through all the dangers, crises and shortages the devil creates so that we can come through them all abundantly BLESSED.

If you want a sure-fire way to live an easy life, this is it: Follow Jesus. Go where He leads, say what He tells you to say, and do what He shows you to do, and trust Him to take care of the rest. What could be easier?

With every day that passes, you can be grateful that God has provided His people with a place of refuge. That protection is available to you, your family and your home 24 hours a day, seven days week. If the weather reports that a storm is immanent or you live in an area that has been struck by storms or tornados, then implement this plan of protection and be thankful that God has provided you a refuge.

1. When You Need Protection from a Storm, Rely on Psalm 91

Begin to study Psalm 91. It gives you a picture of the protection that is afforded you as a child of God–if you rely on it and stand on God’s Word. When weather patterns begin to form that promise devastation, you can be like the man in Psalm 91 who dwells in the secret place of the Most High. You can say with confidence: “The Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!” (verses 1-2, The Amplified Bible).

2. When You Need Protection from a Storm, Trust in God

Take your cue from King David in the Bible. If anyone ever needed help in time of trouble, David did. Throughout his life, he faced a lot of trouble and threats of trouble. He had to fight the lion and the bear that attacked his father’s sheep. He had to single-handedly slay the murderous giant, Goliath. But he could do it all without fear because he had this revelation: “Praise the Lord, who is my rock… He is my loving ally and my fortress, my tower of safety, my rescuer. He is my shield, and I take refuge in him…” (Psalm 144:1-2, emphasis added).

Look again at those last two words that have been italicized for emphasis because they’re especially important. God’s sheltering power doesn’t just fall on you like an apple off a tree. You have to do something to appropriate it. You have to actively “take refuge” in God by having faith in and receiving everything God offers–including protection.

3. When You Need Protection from a Storm, Resist Fear

Focus on God’s promises of protection until all fear has been eradicated from your heart. Then you will be able to say with confidence, “I’m hidden in the secret place of the Most High! He saves me from violent storms and tornadoes. He’s my refuge, my defense and my very present help in time of trouble.

4. When You Need Protection from a Storm, Obey the Holy Spirit

If you want to stay safe in God’s refuge, you must obey Him. You must do what He tells you to do in His Word and through the voice of the Holy Spirit inside you. When storms threaten, ask the Holy Spirit what you need to do. Do you need to leave for a shelter, remain at your home, move your car, cover your windows, pull your children out of school, go about your day as usual, what? Only the Holy Spirit can give you clear direction, but whatever He directs you to do, do it!

Over the last several years, many areas have experienced deadly storms and tornados, but thankfully, you don’t have to be afraid. You can take refuge in the Lord, trust in Him and His Word, obey His Holy Spirit and stand fear-free. You can enjoy the protection of the Lord when you put these points into practice, and enjoy knowing that storms and tornados no longer have a hold on you, your family or your home!

In Part 1 of this series, I talked about what it is to receive your healing. If you haven’t yet read that article, go back and read it. Think about the scripture I gave you: Isaiah 53:4-5. Write it out, memorize it, post it around your home, in your car and in your office. Then when it is real to you, begin putting it into practice. I’m going to teach you how to do that right now.

Remember, in my last article, I told you that occasionally when Ken and I are out at a restaurant, someone will pay for our meals. When that happens, we don’t sit around waiting until we feel like the bill is paid. No, we just take the cashier’s word for it and accepted the fact that our bill is paid.

As simple as that may sound, we receive healing from God the same way. We take Him at His Word. We believe we are healed, not because we feel healed or look healed at this moment but because God said we are. By faith, we start talking like we’re healed. We start acting like we’re healed. Before long, our bodies line up with God’s Word and it becomes apparent to everyone that we truly are healed!

Some people are reluctant to receive their healing by faith. They think it’s too hard to do. So they just go to the doctor or wait around hoping someone will lay hands on them and zap them with the power of God. Now please understand that I’m in favor of laying hands on the sick, and I love it when the gifts of healing operate. And I think doctors are wonderful, but too often people only rely on medical doctors to help them.

The truth is, even if someone lays hands on you, or the doctor gives you medicine and you get healed this time, one of these days you’ll still have to grow up spiritually and learn to operate by faith if you want to live a victorious Christian life.

Why? Because the Bible says very clearly in three separate verses, “The just shall live by faith” (Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11; Hebrews 10:38). We are born again by faith. We fulfill the will of God in our lives by faith. If we’re sick, we receive healing by faith. We receive anything and everything that we need from God…by faith!

Faith is simply believing what God says in His Word. It is trusting what He says more than we trust our natural senses or what other people say. Faith is believing God enough to talk and act as if His Word is true even when circumstances around us would seem to indicate that it’s not.

How do we get that kind of faith? Romans 10:17 tells us, “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” So if you want to get stronger faith, spend more time in the Word of God.

That’s exactly what Ken and I did 45 years ago when we were just finding out about these things. We didn’t have time for television or newspapers. We read our Bibles instead. We listened to preaching tapes day in and day out–whenever we could. And we’re little different today. We still keep a steady stream of God’s Word flowing into our hearts. We can’t wait until someone comes and spoon-feeds us the Word and neither can you.

Now is the time for you to receive your healing. Say this out loud: “Thank you, Father God, that by stripes of your son Jesus, I am healed. Thank you that these symptoms are disappearing right now. Thank you that I have divine health today and every day. Amen.” You can receive your healing by faith. God ordained it. Jesus paid for it. Now it’s time for you to get to it!

by Gloria Copeland

Today, I want to talk to you about a topic that is very close to my heart–receiving your healing by faith. Those words sound foreign to many people. Some have never heard that phrase before. Others assume that those of us who use it are just trying to get their money or are living in denial.

But I know differently. I know because I’ve lived by this principle for more than 45 years. Ken and I are doing everything in our power to teach others how to do it. We want people to know that regardless of your illness–mental or physical–regardless of your diagnosis, regardless of your family history, regardless of your lab results, you can receive your healing by faith. I’m going to teach you what it means and how to do it.

What Does it Mean to Receive Your Healing by Faith?

“You don’t owe anything. Your bill has already been paid.”

Sometimes Ken and I hear those words in a restaurant when we start to pay for our meal. Usually it’s because one of our Partners was there and decided to bless us. That’s such a nice feeling–it always touches our hearts.

When I think about what Jesus did for us when He gave His life on the cross, I’m reminded of those times and I realize God has said those same wonderful words to us: You don’t owe anything. Your bill has already been paid.

Without our asking Him to do it…while we were still living in sin and rebellion…Jesus paid the price for our forgiveness. With His own blood, He paid the debt we owed to God for every sinful thing we have ever done…or will ever do. He set us free from sin, sickness and pain. He paid the bill so we can be whole–spirit, soul and body.

Isaiah 53:4-5 says it this way:
Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole (The Amplified Bible).

The last phrase of that verse means a great deal to me. I love the fact that it says, “We are healed and made whole.” It doesn’t say that one day we will be healed and made whole. It doesn’t say that possibly, if it’s the will of the Lord, we might be healed and made whole. It says we already are!

If you have sickness in your body today, you might be tempted to argue with me about that. You might say, “Hey, I’m hurting right now. I’ve been to the doctor and he says I’m sick. I even have X-rays to prove it. How can you say I am healed?”

I’m not the one saying it. God is the One who said it in His Word–I’m just quoting Him. He’s given us the good news that the price for sickness (which entered the world through sin) has been paid! So if you’ve given your heart to Jesus, you don’t have to pay the price of sickness anymore. Your healing has already been provided. You can simply receive it by faith and go!

In Part 2 of this series, I’m going to teach you how to receive your healing by faith. You can be healed from heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disorders, depression, bi-polar disorder, autoimmune disease, irritable bowel disorder, cancer or any other disease the enemy has put on you…in fact, by faith you already have been!
