Psalm 91:16 says, “With long life will I satisfy him, and show him My salvation” (NKJV).

The Bible has a lot to say about God’s will concerning our life here on the earth—how we are to live and for how long. God has a good, long life planned for us. But without that revelation, we can’t expect to live out the full number of our days. It takes faith to receive the promises of God!

There are a number of reasons people die young. To live long on the earth, it is important to do the following:

  1. Receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, and live in the covenant of protection.
  2. Expect to receive God’s promise of long life.
  3. Speak only words of life over yourself; and do not declare sickness, disease or death over yourself.
  4. Walk in love. Bitterness and unforgiveness are the root of many diseases.
  5. Obey God’s commandments, and seek to live according to His Word.
  6. Do what’s right in the natural. Eat right, exercise, and avoid smoking and other unhealthy habits.

While we have a personal responsibility to live right, there are times when tragedy comes that we cannot explain. The death of a child is one such example, and we know with absolute certainty that this is not God’s will. Scripture repeatedly tells us that it is God’s desire that His children live long, prosperous, healthy and blessed lives. Scripture also tells us that our spiritual enemy is Satan, and he comes to steak, kill and destroy.

There is no place for blame or guilt in such a circumstance. Again, it is never God’s will for such a loss to occur, but He is always there to heal hearts and comfort the brokenhearted. Here are some scriptures that will help minister God’s promises of comfort to you or a loved one: Isaiah 61:1-3; Psalm 23:4, 71:21, 24; 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.
