As Christians, we know Jesus has already defeated Satan for us (Colossians 2:15), but Satan is still going to use certain strategies to try to trick us into believing otherwise. His strategies are intended to keep us defeated and to take everything that is rightfully ours.

We have a responsibility to stand our ground against the devil’s schemes. That is why God told us to “resist the devil” (James 4:7) and use “the weapons of our warfare” (2 Corinthians 10:4, KJV). It’s why He gave us “authority over all the power of the enemy” (Luke 10:19).

We do all these things by first having a battle plan, “so that Satan will not outsmart us,” and we do this by becoming “familiar with his evil schemes” (2 Corinthians 2:11). It’s what the military calls intelligence.

God has given us all the intelligence we need to keep the devil under our feet. Psalm 144:1 says that He trains our hands for war. He reveals the enemy’s strategies, and then tells us the plan of counterattack.

The enemy attacks you in four ways:

  1. Fear (2 Timothy 1:7)
  2. Lies (John 8:44)
  3. Temptation (James 1:13)
  4. Stirring Up Pride (Proverbs 13:10)

To resist these attacks, immerse yourself in the Word of God. It is the truth that will set you free! Take every thought captive and most importantly—talk back! Whenever a fearful, prideful, tempting or false thought comes into your mind, speak back to it with the Word of God. Out loud.

Above all, watch your words. Fear-filled, negative words open the door to the devil. Don’t speak anything you don’t want to see happen in your life. If things are already headed in a wrong direction, repent for the wrong words you’ve spoken, then get back on the right track, and speak life and victory over every part of your life, in the Name of Jesus!
