How do I hear God's voice?

God is speaking to you as a Father speaks to His child. God is not an absentee Father. He's speaking all the time. He's speaking to you through the Bible, which is His written Word. He's speaking to you by His Holy Spirit and fulfilling the promise Jesus made in John 16: “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’” (verses 13-15).

If you believe Jesus meant what He said in those verses, you can come to only one conclusion: If someone has been saved and therefore has the Holy Spirit dwelling inside him, he can and will hear God’s voice if he is listening for it.

Praise God, you can make up your mind right now to be that someone. You can settle this by faith and say, "Jesus is speaking to me, and because I am His sheep I have ears to hear Him."

Once you have that settled and you tune in to what The Lord is saying to you, you can walk out your life just like Jesus did. You can hear from Him the words He hears from the Father, and you can speak those words by faith. Then the Father will do the works, and what Jesus said to the disciples in John 14:12-13 will come to pass in your life: “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.”
