Hurricane Harvey Update: Field Report
The KCM Disaster Relief team has been on the move helping our Partners affected by Hurricane Harvey.
The team began relief efforts in the coastal Texas towns where Hurricane Harvey made original landfall. From Rockport, Port Aransas, Corpus Christi, Victoria and more, our team traversed 2,500 miles in a two-day time period. Most of the small coastal towns were without running water. Trucks lined the streets, attempting to restore electricity to the towns. Cell phone service was almost non-existent upon entering the affected areas.
Our Partners' faith has been high, as they speak of the goodness and protection of God. We are happy to report that the majority of our Partners we have visited have incurred minimal to no damage to their homes and property. With the nearest available hotel being more than 150 miles from the hurricane damage, our team leaves before sunrise and returns well past sunset in their efforts to ensure the provision of our partners.
Navigating the restoration process of your home after a natural disaster can be incredibly daunting. KCM Partner Karen's home was flooded during Hurricane Harvey. Karen did not have flood insurance, and the storm caused severe structural damage to her home. Steve Poteet, KCM Outreach manager, helped Karen understand the steps she needed to take in the restoration process. We were able to bless Karen financially on behalf of all the partners at KCM.
Continuing to work our way through the wake of Hurricane Harvey's devastation, our KCM Disaster Relief team met with KCM Partner Carol in Dickinson. The Lord had been leading Carol to read Protecting your Family in Dangerous Times by Kellie Copeland. When the storm hit her home, Carol realized God's protection is about more than property; it's about weathering the storm with His peace in your heart.
So far, we’ve made contact with more than 2,000 of our Partners, and we’re still working. Continue to pray for our team as they search for every Partner who may be affected. We’re claiming 100 percent restoration and favor for all.
How You Can Help
Flooding of this magnitude requires trained individuals to assist in rescue and relief efforts. As the hands and feet of Jesus, we know you want to help, so be sure to connect with a reputable, tried-and-true organization if you feel led to volunteer your time and services.
Please continue to pray for the families affected by this devastating storm. You, as our Partner, make it possible for us to help people in the wake of devastation like this, so we can share with them that we love them, our Partners love them, and JESUS IS LORD!
Increasing His Kingdom,
The KCM Disaster Relief Team
